hi guys,

finally picked up my 95' sti this evening. its great but theres a couple of niggles,

theres a churpy noise from the engine bay, to dark to have a look now, any ideas?

alarm wont set whilst the turbo timer is doing its thing, anyway around this?

and the clutch pedal sticks, then pings back up, quite annoying!

there are no set belt clips in the back, theres the belt but nothing to plug it into! where could i get replacements?

as you can probaly tell i'm not exactly the most technical person in the world!


ps. the car is f**king quick!

Hi mate,
Chirpy noises in the engine bay tend to be from cracked heatshields, simple to sort once worked out which one. Depending which it is you can sometimes just bin it completely.
Sorry if this is teaching you to suck eggs a bit but on the seatbelt front you have stuck your hand down the back of the seat and tried to find em stuffed down ther haven't you? Can't imagine for the life of me why anyone would remove them?

Don't know bout the rest though, enjoy!!

might have lost a bolt on the exhaust and its 2 pieces of metal rubbing....happened to me...had a chirping noises

Cam belt tensioner ? can rattle a bit around the right hand side front of the engine IIRC

Just bought a UK terzo and found exactly the same mate, suggested theres a spring retainer underneath the IC if u wanna check thats there? it only happens to me when Im viciously changing gears


Wouldnt suprise me if some1 has used your car for track days in the past, thus taking the seats and the clips out stripping it down for weight saving. maybe a trip up the scrap yard u might find a scoob (even if its a sport or GX etc should all be the same I'd expect

Clutch Pedal sticking is a prob I had on my 95 STi RA and 97 STi, it is just a spring replacement, can;t remember where, but someone will. I got it done for nothing at a service IIRC

Take out the back seat and you will find the seat belt brackets I would think. There is a couple on bolts where your calfs would be if sitting on the back seat, remove these and it will slide out.

Dont say that! car seems in v.good nick other than those niggles... i see your logic though. trying to figure out if my car has traction control, got it sideways on way home for lunch so i'm thinking not??? anyone no what the diff is betwen a normal sti and a sti v ltd other than the roof vent?

Scoobs don't have traction control, other than the 4wd, so no, you don't have it.

Oh oh! Didnt know that.... i'm going from 90bhp to 300bhp and now have no abs or traction control

was tempted to floor it on exiting a damp roundabout, but wasnt sure what to expect, the backs not gonna fly out like rwd would is it? bit of understeer then drift was what i thought....?

Who cares? ABS and traction control does little but help insulate drivers from their own stupidity or carelessness. If you've got your eye on the ball you won't need either. '95MY STi's don't have 300bhp unless they're modified, btw, so poss not as much of a power jump as you were thinking.

Depends on tyres, suspension setup and so-on. Back may move around a bit initially, but front should keep with it to prevent an unwanted pirouette, provided of course you keep your foot in.

Try it and find out. See if you can find an empty car park or something to play in first, less to hit if you do f*ck up.

dont reckon 20bhp would make too much odds! its 280bhp at the wheels according to rolling road so prob well into the 300's at the fly whell i'd imagine...

Know where your coming from with abs, but its always nice to have it incase of emergency, esp in the wet. also my mate with an S3 can go into corners at a ridiculas speed relying on his ESP, probaly relys too much on it thats why i beat him at karting

Just a tip Wez,

You will need to run your car on Optimax, and octane booster as it is not designed to run on UK fuel.

Bit of a gamble buying an STi without knowing a thing or 2 about them

The amount of people I see buying them, running them on unleaded, and watching them go bang after ignoring fuelling advice

Had a few people laugh at me like I was stupid after explaining that

Didnt know you had to put a booster in with the optimax, thought they could set it up to run on opti?

They can be *set up* for just optimax, but it would require a Scoobyecu or LINK, GEMS etc, to be mapped for it.

Some people do run on optimax alone, but you wouldn't catch me doing it!
