Yesterday's Autocar
From the Letters page:
"How nice to read in Steve Cropley's column that Paul Barker's first drive in a Porche 911 proved to be a seminal experience. If only all icons could such enlightenment.
My recent move out of London required something more practical than a Mercedes 220CE and, with a measly maximum budget of 10k, a first gen 5dr Subaru Impreza Turbo seemed the ideal solution:semi-extate for all my stuff, four-wheel drive, a practical car but still a hoot to drive.
Er,no.It was fast in a straight line, but in every other respect it was a dog. Fidgety ride, serious turbo lag, notchy gearchange, rattles galore and the kind of interior plastics that after 64000 miles had the shine and integrity of a bald politician seeking re-election. Maybe it was just a bad example , or maybe at 43 I'm getting old and soft, but as an introduction to the hallowed halls of Scooby heaven if was definitely more teminal then seminal.

He's made some valid points but I reckon he wouldn't like a 911's ride either.
Anyway away you go.
