Exclamation PSI3 DATA MONITORS - PRE 99 VERSION UPDATE

Hello All,

My name is Simon Johnson and I am the chief product designer for
PSi3 Automotive Technology - ECU Data Monitors.
(for those who dont know, there are 3 Simons in our organisation)

I have written this thread to explain our development issues with the
pre 99 models (select monitor) as we keep getting emails from this site
and phone calls about this subject.

Our products are designed to be "PLUG AND PLAY" and we try hard to
incorporate as many vehicle ECU variants in a single unit.
This is so that any unit sold should ideally work on any car it is connected to.
If we did not do this, 19 out of 20 units sold would probally be returned to
us not working.

Unfortunately, Subaru in there wisdom have approximately 14 ecu hardware
types and within this about 50 software variants covering the whole range
for Japan, north american and european cars.
Needless to say, in an ideal workld we would need to test the unit on every
single combination of ECU.
This clearly is not 100% possible due to time and locating all exact cars.

To add to the complexity of this, cars manufactured during 1998 may have
one of three types of ecu communications connector.
Out current product uses the OBD (J1972) connector but older cars use the
select monitor (yellow plug) type.
Cars from 1998 using select monitor ECU's may have either fitted and
we have sold our units to these people and the units do not work.
This is beyond our control at present as some distributors have wrongly
sold units into the market for these cars and clearly this has upset a few
of our customers. For this I appologise for any trouble caused.

Any new product must be thoroughly developed and tested to ensure
reliability and it is this along with the above technical issues that have
held up the latest software version for these older cars.

We currently do have units working on these older cars and some software
test versions are now being released for final test.

The official release date for this software will be announced shortly
and I would ask anyone waiting to please be patient.

However, there WILL be cars that will NOT fully work.
Cars that are identified as not working will report an 8 digit code which will
enable us to add the non working car to the software.
Please be assured, anyone purchasing a unit after the release date that does
not work, can either return for refund or free software update.

I hope this clears up any questions.

If anyone has any additional questions relating to this particular topic,
please EMAIL me direct on simon@s8ecu.co.uk and
NOT post on Scoobynet here as I rairly have time to surf the internet.
