Im looking at a sept 98 wrx Wagon.I was told this is a (280 bhp) model rare and probably the best of the classic wagons.Now what confuses me is that i thought that the 280 bhp imprezas where always red top engine i.e STI.This is what i noted on the engine GF8F58D.What should i be looking to pay with a few mods hks muffler and filter and dv. 46k milage.

According to the SIDC FAQ the engine code is for a 280PS WRX (non STI)

At an educated guess

cams
valves?
forged pistons
rods?
ECU map + higher redline
turbo?

also suspension and other things, the IWOC is a good site for differences

edit to say in most people's opinions the STI is better than the WRX so the salesman might be spinning a line saying his wagon is the best type.
