I'm not particularly technically knowledgable but I remember when buying mine I looked into this; here goes for the memory test.....
208 has intercooler offset to left when looking at engine, 215 has it in centre of scoop
208 has a bigger turbo, giving a bigger 'kick' (so feeling faster?) but more lag, whereas 215's smaller turbo spools up quicker so is quicker on the 0-60
Loads of other differences, including mapping, but can't remember them

Sure someone will tell me this is b0*11*cks

Hope it helps

Si

AFAIK the 208 model has a larger turbo. Spools up later in the rev range but with a real kick. 215 version has a much more linear delivery, but less violent when it hits full boost. That was my my experience from my95 and my99 ownership anyway.

Hopefully there'll be someone along who actually knows what he's talking about soon...

Autocar have the 208bhp car @ 5.3secs from memory.

SIDC (208bhp model):

"tests were carried out on a standard 4 door saloons during November 1997. Firstly Top Gear magazine covered the 0-60 mph sprint in only 5.2 seconds! Then Performance Car (sadly no longer with us), as part of their 0-60 challenge timed the Impreza at a mind blowing 5.03 seconds for the 0-60 sprint, with the 1/4 mile being covered in 13.72 seconds at 100.6 mph. It should be noted though, that the Performance Car tests were carried out at Santa Pod drag strip (quality grippy tarmac), with only the driver, a near empty fuel tank and in one direction only."

Cant shed any further light on technical differences.

Autocar's first review of the 108 BHP model has it down as 5.8s 0-60.

92-96 were large turbo, 97-00 small turbo.

There is very little difference on 0-60, the 99 is probably ever so slightly quicker than the others.

okay there are 3 types

my94-my96 they had the larger TD05 turbos and were 208bhp
my97-my98 (interior facelift model) they had the smaller TD04 turbo and were 208bhp but ran a bit more boost IIRC

my99- they had the TD04 turbo but had the phase two revised engine (thin wire maf) and had 215bhp

Thanks for saving me some typing Chris, couldn't have put it better myself.

Marc - the UK Turbo 2000's official 0-60 time was 6.4 seconds from the very first TD05/EJ20G cars to the 2000MY TD04/EJ205, despite the fact that there are considerable minor variations in turbo, intercooler, engine and ECU spec through the years.

Thus, you're wrong to suggest that the 208 car does 0-60 in 6.4 and the 215 in 5.5. In reality they were all faster to 60 than the official figure once run in. As to what, exactly, the performance is, it's impossible to say. If you look at magazine reviews through the years you'll see different figures quoted all the time, some as low as 5.1 IIRC. I'm afraid there's no one (or two) single right answers here, apart from the official 6.4 second one, which we all know is conservative.
