Default Cant Import 22B Anymore :(

Just rattled off a few emails to importers as I am after a 22B I think.... Maybe! But anyway I got this back....

Hi Jon,

Unfortunately with new legislation, we could not supply a 22B as there is no
model report for this model nor likely to ever be.
Perhaps best to source one of these in the UK.

Best Wishes,

Which means all the ones in the UK suddenley get even rarer than they already were :Q

Might sound obvious but have you tried posting on http://www.22b.com?

Here you go

Q: I have heard that the Disabled loophole through which E-SVA was previously avoided has now been closed. What does this mean for me?

We haven't really got too involved in the discussions regarding the closure of the "Disabled Loophole" primarily because there's been so much heresay going on, but this is basically what's happened:

According to other sources, the SVA rules have changed as of 1 April 2004 - and it's no longer possible to import some cars first registered in Japan after Jan 1997, with the use of the "disabled loophole" to avoid E-SVA.

Apparently, an Importer must now obtain or rent a model report for a car before it can be SVA tested. As model reports are mostly not yet available, this means we are currently unable to import some cars, such as Skylines of all models, as there is no model report for these. See www.modelreports.com for availability.

Some suppliers will have pre-stocked post 1997 cars for which model reports are not available, in order to be able to apply for disabled loophole SVA tests before 1 April 2004 & so be able to supply demand for as long as possible until model reports hopefully become available.

Newera, for example has stocked R34 GT-R's and other such cars, as well as supplying various other UK based Jap Performance Car Importers with post 1997 cars for their stock. We have also sourced standard models of some performance cars to send to the UK and first have "disabled Loophole SVA tested" and subsequently have tested to make model reports, so that such models can be imported in the Future. These include the Impreza STI Version 6 Type R, Supra VVTi 6 Speed Manual and Skyline GT-R R34 V-Spec, GT-T R34, both manual and Auto, plus other JDM vehicles.

Rarer cars like post 1997 FTO GPX Manual models, Celica GT-4 facelift, Rev 4& 5 MR2's Caldina GT-4's and some other models may not become Model Report tested.

You can easily check availability of model reports on www.modelreports.com -

Remember though, for performance cars of pre 1997, the E-SVA doesn't apply. It's only for cars first registered in Japan, post Jan 1997!

If owners of Imports see there is no report available for their car, but would like to help make it possible to import such cars, please view www.modelreports.com - All you'll need to do is supply them with a standard car, mechanically - for a model report to be prepared. It's FREE!
They'll own the model report, although the car's supplier will have access to the report for which their car was used - free of charge, I believe. The more model reports available, the better for all Jap car enthusiasts.

It's interesting to note that on VOSA's website there is still no official announcement of these changes, although I have been told their argument is that as it's not a new law being introduced, but rather the enforcement of an existing law, no announcement or prior warning is necessary. Have a look at their website and you can see there is no new announcement. : http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/newsevents/newsevents.htm

Doing a search on "Disabled", reveals some interesting thread titles which have been modified on 1 April 2004, but frustratingly, if you click on these, nothing comes up - at least that was so in my case when I tried: http://www.vosa.gov.uk/SCRIPTS/texis...sabled&pr=VOSA

Sadly some cars like RX-7's will most likely be impossible to successfully test for a model report, as emissions will not be met, since a rotary runs in some ways similar to a 2 stroke engine, although as currently most people want older models, RX-7's aren't really affected.

There may be some difficulties testing some turbo models too - apparently people have tried to test R34 GT-R's before without success, but you know what rumours can be like! We personally believe it should be possible to pass such a car, as well as twin turbo Supras too.

Cars must be of standard specification - to have a chance of passing noise and emissions tests and sadly this means that subsequent cars that are tested with the same model report, will need to be of the same spec. Some of the better specialists in the UK may collect original exhausts, etc. to help mildly modified cars pass. Luckily, components like suspension, wheels, etc. are not affected. Note also that post 1999 cars should be easy to model report test - as Japanese requirements for emissions have been similar to the UK's and Europe's since then anyway.

We feel it's important more so than ever for importers and enthusiasts to work together to make as many as possible model reports available, so more people can continue to enjoy some of the great performance cars available from Japan.

In the meantime, Newera will continue to do all that is possible to import the cars that people want.

hi mate it is true go to www.modelreports.com and as you can see there are not any available.because of new legislation any car imported which is register after1997 will need to conform to a model report.these cost thousands of pouns to make so you can hire them from co for a few hundred quid but because of it being so rare they wont get a model report made.sounds like youll have to buy one already in the uk,theres one for sale in the 22b for sale board mete
edited oops was typing my bit out when the above thread went up

Custom.

if you were ever looking for a 22B then the one on Iain litchfields site is THE one to have.

Completely unmolested and apparently in stunning condition. Have been speaking to iain about it at length.

Would be happy to furnish you with a @22b.com email address to match if you do join the ranks!

OMG

Just cut and pasted this from the site!

"Where can you get a model report from if it doesn’t already exist?

A vehicle would need to be tested at a test house and the results sent to the VI. The VI would then produce the model report from the information the get from the test house.

How much will a model report cost if you buy your own report?

An emission test and report costs about £2000 (if it passes first time), a noise test and report costs about £1000 (if it passes first time) and a comparison test and report costs about £900. If you want to go really overboard, a crash test and report costs about £11,120 (plus the vehicle)."

Or put it through as an 'armoured car'

There are ways round the new ESVA rule which has in effect killed sub 10 year old imports with no model reports overnight.....

Both are indeed imports. They have had one for some time now, the other is a recent addition. They have been imported before 1st April.

Thumbs up

Have met Dawn one of the partners of SVA imports, and have recommended them to a few buyers, both of which were happy with the cars they bought.
