Default Best single MOD for Bugeye 01

Can anyone advise on the single best mod to improve the performance of the MY01 AND keep it road legal (Not ECU Remap as I plan on doing this after other mods)

Uppipe?, Downpipe?, Back box? etc

Cheers

M

Back box may improve the sound but little else, maybe give you 3-5 bhp
De cat will give you more but you really need to do this with a remap for a safe improvement.
Brakes and Suspension, especially geometry would be my first mods.
I have always been amazed how close a standard/ppp car is on the track/road in a straight line to a "tuned" one with 300+ bhp.

If you want to make it go faster from A->B, rather than just scoring a couple of extra BHP, then upgraded brakes would probably make more difference than anything else.

I'm with scoobycar60. A decent susupension set-up from the likes of Powerstation/TSL will give the biggest improvement for the money. The full deal including Eibachs, front ALK, rear ARB and droplinks fitted with geometry done should be around £750, or just the geometry for £100ish is a good start. When you can better use the available standard power, think about upping it.

It's really the Straight line performance I was looking to improve. The car never really gives me that "kick" that I thought the wrx gave. I'm probably not anywhere near the cars limit in terms of it's handling so money spent on that side of things would not be appreciated by me (yet). Thanks for the suggestions though.

Got another question. Do you get less of a sensation of speed in a 4 wheel drive car than a 2?. When I floored my last car (Cavalier V6) it really "felt" like it was going fast - The Scoob never "feels" as fast?

That kick you feel mate is Torque! V6's are very torquey naturally, start playing with the scoob engine and the V6 will seem like a baby walker in comparison

I wasn't that impressed with the WRX performance as standard. So I had the cat taken out of downpipe going to the turbo, (this is the main difference between the WRX and STi), mine got an extra 40 bhp and loads of lovely torque low down. Goes well now. I also have a prodrive backbox. But no loud exhaust for me I travel 80 miles a day on the M1.

agree with Gaz downpipe 1st - I ultimately had the up pipe, centre , and back box done in the end all scoobysport.
The up pipe gives you a little more rasp and a little more bhp and is a must if doing a full cat in my eyes.

I was in the same situation as you ....... Problem is, I am buying bits, but not getting the time to fit them (or get them fitted) , and ending up with a backlog of things to get done.

In my personal opinion the order of things to get done ( and what I have bought) are :-

ITG panel filter (done!)
Full Decat (centre and backbox fitted)
Brakes (355mm Godspeed upgrade only £895 for bells, discs, calipers, mounting brackets and DS2500 pads).
strut braces front (done!) and rear
Eibach springs
STi scoop (done!)
Defi guages

I just wish I had the time to get it all sorted !!!!!

Gaz,Kev,

Did you do the downpipe yourselves? If so is it easy?
If you don't mind me asking how much did it cost for the downpipe?

Oh yeah - and what do you guys do come MOT time?

Thanks

Mark.

Better performance from a bugeye.....Better breathing so panel filter, stay away from ITG, STi and green are best, full decat....sod the MOT we can always fit the Downpipe at MOT time LOL and remap
Handling, recomend Prodrive springs and geometry settings as well as rear only solid drop links
Braking, (cheap) front pagid discs, Ds2500 pads and goodgrige hoses all round ( expensive) AP 6 pots nuff said really.
Your looking for more grunt off the line, so your looking at exhuast and air filter first.....however I would say best thing to do is as what everyone else says ....handling........ Prodrive spings and geometry, rear Anti roll bar links.
Not being cheeky here but learn the way to best drive a scoob as well, had my bugeye 8 months now and still learning how best to use it....its nothing like the car you had before, but when you get the hang of it I dare ya to stop grinning

I agree, best mods are springs, geometry, drop links and anti roll bar ( had mine done at powerstation)

forget speed, it will feel much more sporty with the handeling sorted, it will also look better

if you go power first - green air filter, tsl sports cat downpipe(stay legal ),de cat up pipe, decat centre and backbox all with a ecu tek3

the main power hike comes from the downpipe and ecu tek3 but it is recomended that you get them done at the same time to stop boost spikes and as midlife said this is when you also need to replace the uppipe, some also recommend a fuel pump

My downpipe was changed by G Force in Aylesbury using an APS part.
It's worth getting someone who knows what they are doing as you will get better results. Mine needed a session on the rolling road to get the best from the mod.
As for the MOT it still has the remaining CATs in the exhaust and will pass an emission test easily. The CAT in the turbo pipe is only really there for the American market. That is why the septics don't get the STi.

Scoobysport approx £200 about 1 hour to fit by the boys there - personally wouldn't have considered doing it myself.
