Question Is £14,000 way over the top for a MY00 Standard Turbo?

Even with factory fitted leather and handling pack, and fewer than 20k miles?

Sounds well pricey... but I suppose it depends what you want. If you’re after a classic then its down to you (low mileage and all that). Try looking else where is my bet and compare prices. You could get a late bug-eye for the same money ??

I'm looking for one to replace my MY99 wagon and that's one of the offers. £2,000 too much, I thought.

Initially some may say yes unless the car is very mint. A dealer next door to where I work has an 35K MY00 (X) on the forecourt for £12950 and its been there since Christmas. Mines had done 43K when I bought it at 10K in Oct 03 - some may say I paid to much then?

If someone will pay that then let them but you may struggle. Only my opinion though mate.

/edit - Tw*t! didn't realise you were a buyer sorry

I'd rather have my pods burnt off. LOL!

Other ones have been between 10-12k. This is a private sale I think. And just to clear any confusion up, I'm looking to buy, not sell.

Say to them your’ll give them £12K and see what they say then. If they say no-way then walk away... Depends on how desperate they are in getting rid of it.... but your right, about £2K over priced. Is this a wagon we’re talking about?

No, saloon. Mrs. po is tired of hearing stuff rolling around in the loadspace of our wagon, and we want something with fewer than 40,000 miles on it.

its a 4 year old car that wasnt much over 20k when new!

the prob with stuff like leather/extras is that you will never sell it at a price in the same way as you bought it- in a few years time it will be up agianst other 6-7k cars and you asking for 9k because its got 7 year old leather seats wont work!

so if you even plan to sell it look elsewhere.

www.autotrader.co.uk

Silver Estate... Xreg Turbo, 32,000mls All extras... £9,900

Show them that. That will give you some ammo.

I totally agree. The seller claims the factory-installed extras (inc PPP) bumped the new price up to £30,000 new, but as you say, it's a four year old scoob and has a maximum value. With the handling mods and a quoted 13k mileage I suspect that it's been a track toy, anyway.

And, as I say, other people have been in touch with much more reasonable prices. The only downside is their location. I can't exactly nip down from Leeds to Berkshire, for instance, to have a gander at something.

Not when a good mate of mine has just got an 17k mile 03 plate WRX wagon with leather for £14.8k. I'd say £11.5k max.

I sold my 2001 Classic (Y reg) with 12K miles WRC Spoiler, 17" Alloys, Multichanger etc etc for £12750 in Sept 2003. It was sold on weeks later for £12K cash to a dealer who had it up for £13995 & sold it (not sure what for) so I guess there is a small premium for proper LOW mileage. If it's a X or W reg then £12K for a private sale (ie No Dealer backup) is top money even with Leather IMHO

You're all on my wavelength here. I thought for an absolutely exceptional example I could go to 11k but would prefer 10k. Not really into performance mods anyway. Thanks for the replies.

I paid 10200 for W plate MY00 ppp with 45k last August if that helps.
I would say well overpriced.

Dont pay that kind of money for a crappy Classic with the interior build quality of a 3 year olds Lego set with an engine to match.

Get yourself a Bugeye MY01 onwards, they are way ahead of the Classic in every sense and are now priced at silly money from the new price, choose carefully and you will get one with some nice cash saving mods for £12-£14k.

Classic owners think that the name means they should ask a premium over the much better, newer models, dont be tempted by the old dogs buy something newer. Ask what you would rather have on the drive, an X plate or a 51 onwards.

The crappy classic, as you call it has performance more akin to a bugeye sti, and doesn't look like a constipated frog, to boot.

For me, its a classic or a new 03/04 shape.

The bug eye was a mistake, and in somecases prices compare to the last of the classics, because they are so ugly

Sorry Zippit but you're wrong, they may feel a bit flimsier but they never break inside or out if looked after & not stupidly modded. Having had a W then Y Classic now a MY03 STi PPP I can say that they are very different cars, yes, but the Later classics have a certain something that the New Age cars don't (Weight for a start ). I wouldn't swap back obviously but I do miss my Classic sometimes.
Bubba, you mentioned Leeds, have you tried Well Lane as they tend to corner the market in decent scoobs? (Prob not cheap either tho).

STEVE with arseless leather CHAPS on:LOL
I have had a P plate classic and a WR RB5 and then an MY01 and the latter of the 3 was by far the best car in every department.
When it was remapped it would destroy even the WR RB5 which looked nice but was built like a chocolate egg.

Im sorry but blatant bullsh#t about Classics being like Bugeye STI's is hilarious
they have a more perceived kick in the back when coming on boost but the lack of noise in the 01 onwards cars takes some of the feeling of speed away from you,you then look at the speedo and realise how fast you are going.

I'm sorry but i wouldnt pay more than £9k for any classic on a W-Y plate.

Love you all.

Destroy?

You need a lot lot more power to destroy something, and im not getting into power to weight discussions here Like for like, the classic ir quicker, and gives more feel.

Erm... I'm not exactly noted for my seriousness Zip.

Besides, you stuck your oar in about bugeyes; IMHO they are ugly. The thread is about classics, It's what I want. BMW are about to find out with the 1-series that no matter how dynamically good a car is, or how well-built, if it looks like a mutant boss-eyed pig it won't sell. Because no-one (sane)wants to be seen in an ugly car.

Bit too expensive mate. You'd pay 12.5K at a dealer for a MY00 DBM with 34K miles, and that's a lot. Private should be about 11K. Shop around there are plenty to choose from.

Quick Reply: Is £14,000 way over the top for a MY00 Standard Turbo?
