Question Castrol RS

Hi all
Just got the above at halfords in 0-40.
It was the only one they did but i have read that the one to get is the 15-60 one.
Will the 0-40 be ok for my 1993 wrx import and how much should i put in. Its a 4l tub?

Thanks everyone

Johnny

Hi Johnny,
the general opinion on here is that 0w is too thin for the Scoob engine. Do a search on Mobil and you should find a few posts!!

You'll need 4.5 litres anyway.

Yup you need the 10w60 rated one, as stated the 0w40 is too thin for a turbocharged engine.

Default Got some!

Well its 4L of mobil 1 15-50.
The only thing is that the manuals say the car needs 4.5L and this is only a 4L. I know you can buy 1L bottles but i thought that the car should be filled to between the two lines so am i right in thinking this is going to mean that 4.5l is not to be used?

Try asking for Castrol TWS, as they changed the name last year in Europe. Still the same oil, 10W60.

I know for a fact that Castrol RS 10w60 is only available as a "special order" item from Halfords. It is the same price as the 0w40 but may take up to 10 days to arrive.

The 10w60 is usually only supplied to service centres, main dealers, etc.

Quicker to get it from Castrol Classic Oils and it is delivered to your door at no extra cost.

10-40W semi synthetic is adequate for road use for this engine. Why pay vast sums of money for the full synthetic when you don't need it. Subaru agents will tell you this too. You are better off to change the oil every 3K miles which will protect your engine much better too. Any good name brand should do it. The 0W certainly is not good for the engine.

The correct oil level is the hole on the dipstick for cold oil. Don't overfill it though. You have to take the dipstick out for a while to let the oil drain out of the dipstick tube and then dip it.

Dont forget to fill the new flter right up with oil before you screw it on, it takes patience and it takes about 0.5 litre. Then 4 litres more into the engine.

Les
