Any idea what the problem might be?
I was driving on the motorway, in convoy with a friend and during the 240 mile journey he noticed sparks appearing from my right, rear wheel. He saw sparks at least six times and said it looked like I was throwing a cigarette out of my car window each time.
Has anybody got any idea what could be causing this - the car seems to be completely normal??!!
I've got my 60,000 mile (car has only done 33,000 miles) service on April the 7th - should I book it in earlier?
Thanks,
Wuss.

Have a very close look at your tyre and make sure there isn't a nail or screw in it. I would imagine that may cause sparks.

Check wear indicator on brake pads, could be catching if pads are worn down.. . Best thing is Jack the wheel up and spin it by hand. See if any things catching at all.
Just a thought

Thanks for the replies chaps.
The tyre is only three months old and I cannot find any nails or stones, etc...
I am still on the original rear pads with 33,000 miles on the clock. If the pads had completely worn down could this be causing the problem?
How easy is it to check the wear indicator on the brakes - will I have to take the wheel off, etc?
Mark.

You can get in and check the brake pads with a mirror and a torch if you know where to look. TBH you would be better taking the wheel off and checking for any grinding noises by rotating the hub. Look for any stones/wire etc. stuck in funny places at the same time.
