New Windscreen - Autoglass or Subaru ?
Took a large stone on the M4 yesterday which has cracked the windscreen - big star burst plus 12" crack which is still growing - on passenger side so can still drive. First time I've had a windscreen go in over 20 years
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for the replacement - it's on an 8 month old MY03 WRX.
Do we trust Autoglass or should I try to get it done by Subaru, if they can ?

Had mine done by Autoglass on a P1 and they used official subaru glass anyway. To be honest I would trust autoglass more I think as they do this everyday... How often must subaru change a windscreen??

I used the RAC - whichever company it is that they use anyway, and cannot fault them at all. Had to order the windscreen as they don't carry stock due to the variations in standard tint. They fitted it with no problems, even managed to get my SIDC tax disc holder off and onto the new one, and even more impressively a strip of black plastic that I put behind the rear view mirror to block the sun was removed and reapplied to the new screen.
Great service.

However, even after refitting it continues to leak occasionally. Not to the extent that there's puddles in the car but enough to leave some drips on the gear shift assembly and a wee pool under the handbrake after a heavy downpour.
Matt, it sounds to me that this could potentially be due to the fitter reusing the seal? What are your thoughts before i get hime out here again?

Assuming you are getting this done through your insurers - check with them. Most have a preferred supplier. Check first. My windscreen was replaced by RAC Autowindscreens - very good and helpful.

Thanks again for all the help.
I've been off line all weekend (shameful I know), and just spotted MattW's post re getting them to pre order the surround .
It's booked in this afternoon, so I phoned Autoglass, who after checking said they know they can't re-use the surround and will have ordered a new one
It is an insurance job (LivVic) who use Autoglass - £40 excess to pay only.

So now it's back with new windscreen - looks to be neatly done, although a few very minor scratches an the pillars - I guess this is to be expected - Is it ?
However the passenger side wiper was not parked in the correct position - about four inches higher at the tip. I thought they just needed a sweep and would park correctly, but no, it's still four inches off the base of the windscreen, which is annoying me. The drivers side is OK and there's no obvious bend to the wiper arm, which makes me think they've bent the linkage between the two arms. I'll look more closely tonight, but can't remember whether you can see the linkage when you lift the bonnet - any thoughts ?
So should I take it back and get them to fix it (more likely break it more), take to Subaru and see if they can fix it or do it myself ?
