Decat but leave the center one?? good/bad?
Is it safe to partially decat a car but leave the center cat in? I know its a bad idea to do just the downpipe or just the uppipe due to hot catalyst material getting sucked in to the turbo....but what about just leaving the center in and remove the uppipe and downpipe cats....?
Any thoughts?
Neil.

Ive done it myself on my MY01-Decat Up/Downpipe,left centre cat on-no probs at all,and makes a huge difference to spool up and revs higher easier.
Im just waiting till MOT time as to find out weather i will need to get a freeflow sports centre cat to pass emmisions.

Started on the decatting with my 03
center gone, downpipe replaced with a sports cat
up-pipe to go eventually, but really should have a remap to go with
Mind you - dyno'd at 272 with these mods alone (yes it is a real dyno - G-Force) - not in a hurry for the up-pipe
Aim is to leave me the far side of 280bhp whilst MOT legal (and keeping ECO-friendly g/f happy ) 1 Cat

Yes, it's perfectly safe. Until recently I was running the Hayward & Scott Up/Down pipes with a back box and the standard catalytic centre section until I decided to have a decatted section fitted.
In terms of power, there is no discernable difference other than a smoothing out of the power with the obvious increase in noise levels and I'm not convinced as to whether it was worth having it changed.
