Bonnet Pins for Sti8
Anyone know a good place to get bonnet pins fitted to STi8 and roughly how much this would cost?
Seriously getting worried about bonnet lift at motorway speeds
Cheers

Whereabouts are you based? I know of a good place in Northants who would oblige.
Where exactly does the bonnet lift BTW, is it from the front, or does it actually bow up in the middle due to the large scoop catching air?

I'm based in Herts so Northants wouldn't be a problem - pls mail me their details. The bonnet lifts up at the front at 70ish + mph but I'm not sure if its from air coming through the scoop or under the front somewhere Would be good to hear from fellow STi8 owners who have the same problem.
Cheers
PS. Still thinking 'bout the mudflaps - have you got the red ones in yet?

Bonnet Lift
The bonnet on my STi8 lifts along the sides, the gap between the side of the bonnet and the wing is visible at lower speeds but at increased speeds the bonnet lifts and the inside edge of the wing is no longer visible (hope that makes sense). Sometimes get a whistling noise which seems to be caused by the air blowing along the gap (110 - 120 MPH on straight private road).

Been a problem with my Ali bonnet on an sti5 ever since I' ve had it
Doesnt matter if you adjust the rubber bumps in the engine bay one iota......
Mine lifts at speeds over 130ish into headwinds - at times it has got scary and has lifted all the way so that only the safety catch is holding it in place - you can clearly see it lifting from the sides - several inches.......
It has happended at least once on mapping sessions with Bob....................... where we had to stop the car to secure the bonnet down........
I'm thinking of pins, but isnt it a little bit difficult with an ali bonnet...... my solution was just to take it easy if I was ever going into a headwind - if its not a headwind then usually it is ok........

Cheers Guys.
Scoobob, mine is exactly the same as yours. Also get the whistling noise as well
Fangoria, whats the difficulty in fitting pins to an ally bonnet?

Yeah, does it on mine too!
Its just bowing in the middle due to the scoop but the fixing at the front should be fine. Bonet pins won't really make any difference as you still pin it near the front and the bonet will still bow in the middle! After a year of driving at upto 145mph on the Autobahn I'm quite confident the bonet won't come up now
The whistling is also a common problem but not commonly known by UK dealers as it only happens at around 120mph which your not allowed to do on public highways The German dealers know all about this as 120mph is an average autobahn speed Its something to do with the rubber seals - either the door or the roof rail thingies, can't remember which. I originally had this problem and the dealer just re-glued them. I had to drive slow for a week to allow the glue to dry properly, after that there was no problem

softness of Ali versus normal bonnets
I destroyed one of these bonnets last year........... very fragile material
Looks ugly.............. I'll ask Roger Clark I think to sort for me when I get a new Turbo fitted (which I have not sorted yet)
