Not me as I will get more than trounced in a Standard Car. However, I have a m8 (DaveU) who fancies his chances in his modded GTR33 (nice motor) - I think he's put his name up for it as long as he can afford the petrol to get there

Silverstone maybe....

Cool

Yep i've put my name forward but i've not heard anything back yet?
It will be good just to see what my top speed might actually be!! The best i've had so far is an indicated 155mph in 4th @ 8000 rpm (just about to hit the redline) so 5th could be interesting...

Wink

Dave,
I think you will be sorely disappointed as your "bus" will run out of room before it can get up to speed as they are using Alconbury (2km) where Puff only managed to get up to 133mph....
LOL

Question

Mike,
Are you serious? Did you really hit that speed?

Very impressive if so.

Unhappy

Mike - only 2km - that's titchy especially allowing for braking, i guess top speed is pretty unlikely really. Did you have any more to go @ 172mph and how tough was the slowing down bit afterwards (ie did you leave yourself much runway)?
(sigh) Oh-well it'll be a good laff anyway.
Just got my mail and with it a letter from Revs saying that i'm in - along with 150ish other cars!

Dave

Puff - we're allowed as many spectators as we like so you can come!

I'll be there - assuming the engines repaired by then. Won't win, but we'll see what it can do. Had an indicated 180, 4 up. Needed more than 2 miles though.

Dave / Cem,
This speed (172mph) was achieved at Bruntingthorpe which has a 2 mile long runway. The speed was done at 6540 revs (according to the digital read-out on my Pectel monitor), with 700 revs to go before the rev limit. Unfortunately on that day it was wet, so they moved the timing lights forward to compensate (i.e. give more braking distance). The car was still gradually accelerating and by holding on to the throttle after I had passed the lights (in the interests of science ), I saw 6700 revs before I bottled it and hit the anchors which would equate to a true 175mph. In theory the car is geared for 172mph with the standard diff (3.64) and 184mph with the taller one (3.36).

The car had only 385bhp then, but it now has 420bhp (and maybe a bit more by August....) and produces the peak power 500 revs higher. In view of this and providing the car can get up to speed in the distance given, then I hope to match the old speed (in a shorter distance) or if I'm lucky improve upon it (stopping, and the position of the timing lights will be the decider!).

The last few hundred metres at Alconbury has large tufts of grass on the runway growing in the gaps. This is very disconcerting over choosing where to brake / aim the car! Fortunately I have AP 330mm discs on the fronts and 300mm on the rear, so stopping is not such an issue as the other cars taking part.... However, they will obviously set the lights up for the cars with marginal braking (as they did last time), so you can't pick and chose when to lift off (as you can when the timing gear is attached to the individual cars.....).

To ensure that I do well, I will be taking two diff ratios (3.36 & 3.64) and two different size rear tyres (215/40 x 17 & 225/620 x 17) to try and match the gearing to the track..... Not that I'm taking it seriously or anything!
LOL
