I Thing I Might Have Done Something REALLY Stupid...
I have just recieved a phone call from the following number...01592 777800.
To cut a long story short, he mentioned my Impreza was in the autotrader and that he was ringing as he was from a new magazine (can't recall what it was called) and was wondering if I wanted to recieve it. (All to do with buying and selling cars)
I can't believe I have just done this, but I gave him my name and address The bloke sounded either South African or Asian, and sounded really genuine, and as if he was sat in a cold call centre. With hindsight I shouldn't have given my address out as these "steal to order" gangs are more and more sophisticated.
What shall I do now ? Has anyone else had a such a phone call ? Should I be worried ? Call the police ?
Help !
Thanks
Matt
* Edited to add - I'm not linking S Africans or Asians with car theft, as it may sound above *

Do you have somewhere else other than your place to leave the car. E.G mothers, inlaws, mate's house, if so I would leave it there for a while, you never know. As you have the number I would also ring them back and tell them not to bother with the Mag as you have just sold the car. This might put them off if they are a nick squad.
Hope were both wrong. See ya Paul.

Why not just call the number back - the way in which it is answered combined with a few probing questions should quickly establish if it's genuine or not.
I don't s'pose its too much to worry about anyway - after all they did "reveal" their phone number. Incidentally, the number does appear to be a "golden" number and I can't see the average criminal stretching to one of those

Thanks for the replies - at least i know I'm not going to get someone turning up with baseball bats wanting my keys !
I have rang them back telling them to take me off the "list", and if I realised they were canvassers I would have ignored their initial call in the first place

Yep its a scam thats being doing the rounds for a bit now :
'Ah, I see you live in the Outer Hebrides - well we have 30 local people who are interested in your car, and for a fee we'll put them in touch with you'. Leave well alone !
And disconnect your door handles from the mains supply, no-one's gonna nick it !

I got that call too when I was selling the RB5. I just told them I wasn't interested and hung up! Really p1$$ed me off though, I pay to put an advert in Auto-Trader, get absolutely no calls of genuine customers and the phone never stops ringing from con-companies claiming they have a buyer lined up, you get your money back if they take out finance etc. etc. Even when you hang up and tell them to p1$$ off they ring you back a week later to try again! I'll stick to advertising on ScoobyNet in future... it costs less any you only get genuine buyers!

Be careful if what sounds like a genuine buyer who makes an appointment to view doesn't turn up.
Happened to me once, I was just pissed off he didn't show, next morning there was just a small pile of quarter light glass left on the drive. Luckily it was an old festy, not a scoob.... and I'd even given him directions to the house - doh!

Courtesy of Google, that number is listed as a "junk mail caller" (http://www.ajlelectronics.co.uk/junk.htm). No idea what that site's about, but it's one of Google's two hits on "01592 777800"
