Default New Server!

Hi All

I'm pleased to say, we are now running on the new scoobynet servers.

We should see a dramatic performance improvement, but there will still be tweaks to get it just right.

Please feedback your comments on the speed, etc.

All the best

Simon

Just tried a couple of searches, first impression seems nice and quick. I'll have another go later when more people come back online!

it will take a while to settle down, there's a lot of caching that needs to happen for the speed to show itself in full.

But on the other hand, we only have about 200 users online currently (due to the long outage - apologies) so we won't know what will happen once we have 600 - 700 online until it happens.

In addition, the sooner the load on the old page dies down we will see a further improvement, although nothing significant.

Then once we have that sorted, we'll start the fine tuning, and then switch all the features on (such as search, etc), and tune a but more.

Thank you to all for your patience. We're approaching the light at the end of the tunnel now

All the best

Simon

Search doesnt work, and certain rooms are closed to peasants.

Seems exactly the same as yesterday, I hope you didnt put too much effort into this modification.

If you did get your money back!

As you said, let it bed in a bit then you should be able to "increase the rev limiter" by tweaking MySQL a bit!

Strange. I have just tried to access this site via www.scoobynet.co.uk and got a load of gobbledegook. Using the url bbs.scoobynet.co.uk gets me in.

Has this got anything to do with the servers then?

Apologies guys

It appears the server went to the wall at some time in the early hours.

Only just found out, so will investigate now.

All the best

Good work!

SN3 Seems faster by say 30% over the old server on my 56K dial up.

Simon, whilst at work this morn (BAE Systems)the link to the new S/net just dumped out on a blank page with a load of garbage, was that a common fault 4 everyone or just a prob with a networked company (firewall etc), there were loads of us with no access, people crying everywhere

Not sure who you have hosting with (presumably at least one dedicated server), but they are not too good at setting up DNS. Either that, or the ns1.esoftsolutions.co.uk. nameserver is down.

There are a lot of DNS problems - no glue, no A record, no RDNS.....etc.....no wonder its incredibly slow and has been all day today for me.

I'd be interested in the specs on this new server. I know of a similar sized forum (members, post, threads), well maybe a touch bigger, that is spread across 4 HEFTY servers.

I would have a chat with the host, and if they are not sure.....find a new one!
