Talking Picking up a MY99 in 2 weeks...

Hi all,

Just wanted to make a quick post to say ello and to share my excitement over
getting my first scoob in a couple of weeks. Picking up a MY99 in silver with 34k on the clock

Not gonna mess with it too much - clear indicators and repeaters, paint the orange wedges silver, maybe have the skirts, mirrors and handles colour-coded but that's it. Car came dealer fitted from new with ScoobySport backbox, prodrive quickshift and steering column mounted boost gauge so I'm pretty happy with those

Anyway, hope to see you guys soon at a Scooby event.

Jay

Hello mate, I picked up my MY00 last Friday and have been grinning ever since.

The wait is worth it. Good luck with your new car.

Hi Jay and wellcome , I would go for the colour-coded mirrors etc if I were you , I think it finishes the car off just right . Remember to wave at other Scoobies and to stop smiling when your not driving it !

Hi Jay,
I picked up my my99 wagon 2 days ago and have been grinning constantly, especially with the noise that the Vortex makes.
I'm already turning into an annorak, i'll definately be heading for Elvington next weekend to meet all you other crazzies!

Hi Jay,
I've had my silver MY99 for nearly a year now (28K on it now) - It was colour coded as an option from new and I've also painted the wedges, put on crystal-clear side and front indicators and added a scoobysport (H&S) back-box.... You won't be dissapointed! If you want a pic of what yours will look like drop me a line........ Cheers.

Nothing really , In bought it second hand , with the Prodrive rear spoiler , Quickshift , and PIAA driving lights(WHICH ARE EXCELLENT), as you can see it was colour-coded too. It's got A/C and a sunroof also . No mods , but I'm getting tempted ....

have fun

I'm a 2 week scooby owner after getting a MY00 Wagon.

It's a hoot and has an STi backbox for sound effects.

wow air con and a sun-roof. that must be rare

mine has neither

I'm definitely going to have to look in to colour-coding. I saw the ScoobyClinic offer for £230 inc VAT which is great - but I live in London so need somewhere a bit nearer to home that could match their price (and service from all the good comments about em I've seen on here).

Thanks for the pics btw 916Duke - lovely car - thats the look I'm aspiring to

Get a Disklok too , worth the £60 quid (half that price in Costco), helps keep the scum away !

I was thinking about that but wasn't sure about storing it while I drive (i.e. having it clunking around in the back).

What do you do - wedge it behind the passenger seat? Or does it have a mounting bracket for the boot maybe?

For a car that is getting on a bit, don't forget to check out the MAF and lambda sensors. The fuel pump might also be getting tired by that time too.

Got fuel pump on my MY99 a few months ago, MAF and lambda last year.

Are there any tell-tale signs I should look out for? I know the car has been serviced every 6 months since new, the last one being 29/12/03 - would you still expect to see problems? Would a main dealer look at these potential issues for me (bearing in mind I don't want to invalidate my warranty)?

I have a Disklok bag thing which velcros' shut and this holds it well inside the bag. I then put it on the rear passenger side floor and it sits perfectly under my front passeneger seat with very little movement (someone smashed the back of my car in on the motorway last week in a van and it did not move).

You can buy the bag from the disklok website. About £8 I think.

if you don't want a disk lok get your dealer to fit a gearbox lock its an official subaru extra costa about £230. gives added security.

Thumbs up

hello scoobyjay, I too have a MY99, I've had it a few weeks and it's now booked in at Roger Clarkes to have the exhaust and back box fitted, it just can't be helped when you see all that is available for your precious scoob... is this your first one or have you had one before?

Cool

Still think Disklok is a good bet , as you can transfer it to your next car , and yes I just put mine in the passanger footwell... no problem ! And as has been mentioned above , get the MAF checked out , mine went this year , it's hard to tell apart from lumpy running on tickover sometimes , but it's one of those things that tend to fail quite often on MY99's, if in doubt change it was the advice I got on here (about £70 odd) the down side is engine damage which could run into thousands .(MAF's tend to get the blame for most things on here !!)

Thanks for the advice. Would my local Subaru dealer check it for me or would I need to use a specialist?

either really...., when the search function is working again on here (soon?)try a search under MAF ,its croped up 'just a few times' , the problem with MAF's from what I remember reading is that it's hard to tell if the MAF's knackered , even with the dealers diagnostic kit ,the tickover tends to blip up and down and the car can run lean (MORE MPG) , and sometimes stall when you reach a junction etc , if you get these symptoms it may just be best to change the thing anyway (about £70 and a 2 minute job). Now bring on the experts ....greesemonkey ? ...

Thanks again Dave. I have the search function as a plus member so I'll use that and stop bothering people with the same old boring newbie questions
