This is a common fault on the STi, i dont think there is alot you can do about it though, try doing a search, that may throw something up

The WRX does it too, scared the s**t out of me the first time, dont think ive been as quick again since, think i was doing about 130 at the time.
I think its a problem with the 03's in general, not just the STIs

Its a plot by the Government.

Speed cameras aren't slowing us down so they have approached manufacturers to build in a speed limiter sonic noise generator.

Needs a bit more work,as the 03 prototype should go off at around 75mph not 110.

Yep me too!

MY98, same speed (well maybe a bit higher), but I was sure it was coming from my sun-roof!?

Blimey, I'm glad this is a common fault as I thought mine was the only one. It seems to me like the window doesn't seal very well. I say this cos if you push the window the noise tends to go away.

My drivers side window seal does come loose from time to time. I just push it back in and it's okay for months after. Might be worth pushing the seal back into it's retaining groove firmly, (if you aint tried that already).

Yup - same here - although mine is at about 120+ so not so much of a problem!

Me too - at 110-120. Was racking brain how to explain to dealer what this strange noise was at such a naughty speed.
Seems to happen mainly when a crosswind. Thought it was driveshaft to start with.
This STI lark is starting to seem a very unsorted car on top of the bad cold starts and need for 2k PPP to unleash full power.
Never had trouble like this on my MY99! and i'm sure it was just as fast.

I was told it was the wing-mirrors cutting through the air at high speed - happened on my Bugeye the weekend i picked it up on my way to the norfolk broads at a speed above the national limit

Still happens at high speed, depending on how warm/cold the air is!

and yes, it scared the sh*t out of me as well - I thought I had hit the limiter alarm
