Engine Light?
#1
Had a full decat Hayward Scott exhaust fitted to my MY02 about 6 months ago. Recently I was on the M1 with 3 other passengers (not driving that hard) and the engine light came on. So I took it to a main dealer who had a look at it, the outcome was that an electronic gadget had to be fitted to tell the computer that it was a full decat. When I asked how much it would cost (supply only) they said £350.00!!! I couldn't beleive it. Since then I ve spoken to the guy who fitted the exhaust who (at the time of fitting it) took the car out and thought it didn't need this gadget, (I must say I trust this guy with scoobs, he even looks after rally sccobs). Anyway ive been told to reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for a minimum of 6 hours, to see if it happens again, has anyone else had any engine light problems of this nature?

I'm presuming that the garage wanted to hook the car up to a Select Monitor, but you can simply join the two terminal plugs that hang down under the dash, turn the key to the "on" position and read the fault code to see whats up. The Engine light will now flash "long" for 10's and "short" for digits. This will also reset the ECU...
i.e. if it flashes long long long short short, thats 32. Then look up the fault code.
I suspect that if you've fitted an after market exhaust that the Lambda sensor has gotten upset and thrown a wobble.
