MY03 WRX. When stationary and blipping the throttle to only about 2,500-3,000 revs, can hear a kind of liquid 'sloshing' sound coming from the passenger side of the engine.

Normally more noticeable from a cold start.

Anyone else have this and know what it is?

Not a homeless drunk sleeping in the engine bay?

Check to see if it's louder in the cabin or out...if it's louder inside the car, then it could be air in the heater matrix, from a leaky or faulty water pump, or a leak elsewhere in the system...if you can , check for bubbles in the expansion tank .

Yes, I've noticed this recently on my MY01. Don't remember it being there before. Mine is noticable when sitting in the car when the engine is cold. I'll check for air bubbles and leaks.

They all do that ....sir.

Has been debated many a time on here. But as I have slept since the last debate, I have forgotten what the reasons were.

Mine does it though (WRX01) Air-conditioning rings a bell....

I have a MY95 turbo and have the same symptoms i.e. sloshing sound and airbubbles in the overflow bottle for the expansion tank? question 1)how do you get rid of the air lock and 2)will it cause any faults with the airlock there i.e bad running?

Morty, what you have are symptoms of a head gasket about to let go.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one!

Did a search under 'sloshing' but couldn't find anything?!

Car is in to Xtreme Scoobies on Monday, so will ask then.

I have an MY01 and again it does exactly the same thing.

Also think it was something to do with the air-con.

Heater and air-con both work fine so I don't mind.

Nathan..

Its air in the cooling system - ask for it to be drained and re-filled/bled carefully.

The flat 4 engines can be a bit of a b4stard to get air out of, as theres no real high point for the air to go.

My Legacy GTB used to do it. Sort of rushing water sound from behind the dashboard? Worse when the engine's cold? It's an air bubble in the heater matrix, as discussed many times before. Won't cause any damage realistically - but you may suffer from slightly reduced heater output, and possibly slightly reduced engine cooling. But given how rock steady the flat four coolant system is - it's unlikely to be a problem.

But after draining and refilling the coolant myself (slowly), it no longer does. Only took an hour or so. The trick is to pour the water in carefully so you don't introduce loads of bubbles. Seemed to work for me anyway.

Rich.
