By my reckoning the rolling circumference should be the same as the O/E 205/50 15s. My only worry is whether or not they would sit properly on a seven inch rim.

well, 215/40/17 work on a 7"x17" rim, so width-wise I think you should be fine (unless you were thinking they would be too wide - perhaps try 205/45 ??)
