What would you do?

threten them with legal action unless the pictures are removed, costing them a fortune in reprinting the catalogue, or maybe negotiate a load of freebies in return for using the pictures.

AFAIK...
If these are photos that YOU have taken then YOU own the copyright for them, even if the subject of the pictures (I'm guessing they're cars) is not owned by you. )Found this out when I had a family portrait done by a local photographer, and I had to buy the copyright from him in order to reproduce them)
You are perfectly within your rights to take, or threaten, legal action, but Christ knows what the costs would be.
The first thing to do would probably be to approach the party involved and kindly request that the pictures are removed, then take things from there.

If the photos were taken in a public place i dont think you have a leg to stand on.
Whoever takes the photos retains copyright.
My wedding photographer used one of our photos in his front window for quite a while there was nothing i could do about it and in any case was quite flattered and slightly miffed when he removed it a few months later.

Mark,
I have spoken to the party you are refering to and he has said.
He is not claiming that the work or the pics are his, he was meerly using some pics he found on the internet to show what he could do. He has not taken credit for the work in the photo either.
However the catalogue has now been withdrawn pending changes.
Cheers
Steve

I emailed him but never had a reply, tried again today, still no reply. i wasnt threatening in any way, just simply asking why he had gone about it the way he had.
also advised him that he should be careful that subaru/prodrive might take a differnt view if they were to see that he has used their pics.
i wouldnt have minded if I had been asked permission that he has used my pictures.
