Got in car as normal, all alarms etc were still working, turned off immobiliser and put key in. Radio came on and fuel pump whirred and clicked as usual. Turned key and was greeted by a rapid clicking from somewhere in engine. Nothing. Tried again with same result, rapid clicking. Ideas? What's up with it? Battery, starter motor? How much to sort and can i do it myself??
Help needed.

This may sound paranoid but last night as we pulled into the close in the other car an old rover 214 with no tax and it's passenger door open was sat next to mine. Made enquiries with some people in a nearby apartment who at first denied knowledge of vehicle. After telling them the door was open one came out after we had gone in and shut it. Is it possible to access starter from underside of vehicle and to what point.
These boys had my guts going as well, once a cop always a cop!!

It takes very little power to power the radio or alarm but virtually all of the batteries amps ro turn the starter motor over with a load, this is worse when it is cold.
TBH it has started to get cold, cold does bring out the worst in batteries anyway.
I would suspect the batt or earth probs.

Chris..
first thing i would do is inspect the terminals & connections on the battery & starter, work logically from battery back, both + & -, it's possible the vechicle has been tampered with .. otherwise for a quick fix, get the rac/aa out
good luck

Its your battery. It will still drive the systems that dont require much current but when you try and start it it will drop a cell or two leaving you with 8 or 10V. If you have maintenance caps on top that you can twist off you might see the battery smoke. Dont you do the same thing or you'll go to the big copshop in the sky cos its hydrogen.
Battery piece of p to change and should cost u about 25 quid. Good luck.

yep its the battery fo sure. Diagree with the above price though. If you want a decent one your talkin £50-£60. The cheap ones only last five minutes. Make sure you get one with at least a 3yr warranty.

My £25 one has got a three yr guarantee. If you are ever paying 50+ pounds for a battery someone is making an awful lot of profit out of you.
If you really have to buy one for 50 quid I'll happily sell it to you for that tho!
