Here goes with another set of questions for the knowledgable SN,sorry!!
Can you tell me if the following modifications are recommended to MY99 Turbo 2000 - Dump Valve, Turbo Timer and a set of guages namely boost guage/oil pressure/temp guage in an A pillar mount??
I know these are not going to be cheap LOL and I dont want to waste my money if there are other things I should be doing first. The car currently has a K&N filter and Sebring SSS. Are the mods I suggested performance enhancing or purely engine protective??
Thanks for the responses to my previous posting here as they were very informative!

Sorry forgot to ask about fuel, Iwas recommended to use Super plus unleaded with octane booster but my dealer says UK spec turbo's have had the timing retarded to run standard unleaded. What effect would this have on my car ??
Sorry for all the questions I have waited 6 years for this car and dont want to mess it up!!!

hi mate and welcome to scoobynet,
i aint no expert as such but i kno the majority of scoobynetters will tell u to 4get the dumpvalve- standard one is just fine. majority of ppl change this for a vent to atomosphere one for the whooosh sound. if u dont like the sound dont mess with it- it does virtually nothin for perfomance although some do claim quicker turbo response. gauges r good for monitorin wats goin on with the engine so they are a better buy. best location is on the centre console.
as for fuel optimax is liquid gold- majority of scoobynetters will vouch for that although some do claim bpultimate is ok too but on the safe side optimax seems to b the most favoured and gives the best performance.
ok time for the experts to take over...........i am still waiting for my car.............shuld b out anytime soon (been told that since oct!!!!)
hope this helps

Another welcome to scoobynet.
If u want guages which in my opinion are a good first but so you can see what the standard car is up to before you start mofifying, then have a look at psi3.co.uk
Have got the S1003 in my MY99 and it's great, oh that reminds me must phone up simon and order the Oil temp and pressure upgrade.
Oh and if in doubt try the search button at the top, a veritable wealth of information and confusion behind that button!
Dan.

Driver training, both Rospa/IAM and one of the many performance driving courses that are run across the country.
Cost <600 quid and you'll be able to take it with you when you change the car, won't increase your insurance but will improve your safety and enjoyment.

Replace the standard back box.
On its own it wont increase the performance that much....
but the sound
If you keep an eye on the for sale section, you should be able to pick up a good secondhand scoobysport backbox for £150-£180.
A very good first mod
And welcome to scoobynet

decat it, stick in a ecutek custom remap, and enjoy fast spooler td04 power running on optimax or BP Ultimate will be fine, dont really need Octane Booster unless you have a jap car.

I too have a MY99
I say firstly go for full decat incl downpipe and a decent backbox. You will notice a big difference with the car breathing better. Cats are very restrictive.
Defo get gauges to monitor what car is upto - boost, AFR, elec oil pressure.
Then get urself a remap (ecutek 2.5 or 3) to free up the power which will also up the boost but keep it all controlled via the ecu rather than a manual dawes device
Possibly induction kit if u like em, oh and a VTA dump valve for the ptshh sound. (imo cant have a turbo and no dump valve)
When uve done that you will be a very happy chappy!
Then frount mount intercooler, bigger turbo, injectors......where does it end

As Neil says, driver training first
Then go for the wheels (if you dont already have 17's) and a brake kit upgrade to bigger discs/different calipers.
After that you can go onto the likes of the performance (exhaust and remap). You will notice that i didnt put anything down about induction kits/filters, this is because the MY99/00 cars have very sensitive MAF sensors and varying from the standard airfilter can lead to its failure, and in worse case scenarios, to engine failure (i also recommend a knocklink when you start doing performance upgrades )
