Hello folks - just joined the forum to pick your brains! - I am interested in a 98 WRX STI V4 Type R in Sonic Blue - its up for £10 995 - the reason it may be so cheap is due to the mileage - 67 000 miles. I really like this car and could prob get it for 10k, but, do you guys think the car is VFM with the miles? Just thinking of resale value really in a couple of years or so when it may be close to 100k etc. Would you expect the car to have problems at this mileage. Sorry this is a tad long winded but thanks for any advice. Cheers.

it largely depends on how those 67k miles were done. if they were done mostly on a motorway at cruising speeds, then chances are it's fine. but if that's 67k mostly track, drag racing etc, then i'd look elsewhere.

67k is a fair bit of mileage.. BUT realistically it's not THAT much for a car that is 5-6 years old. check it's had it's servicing on time.. and bear in mind that if it hasn't had it's 60k service yet, you may have to spend a few hundred on that. it is a buyer's market on used subarus, and there's plenty of examples out there.. so if in doubt, get it checked over by somebody in the know.

Don't know if it helps, but I paid £15k for my 98/R Type R in black back in the summer.

It was probably slightly over the top, but it is mint (grade 4.5), had 42k miles, a decent years warranty, full ticket, fresh tax etc. etc. Oh, and it was from a dealer and I got a good P/X on my last motor (Version R FTO).

I'd therefore say £10,995 sounds 'ok' but try and get as much as you can lumped in. If it's from a dealer then deffo try and get a warranty as Sti4/Type R engines can go 'bang' if they've not been looked after or if the induction/AFM has been messed about with...

Vtec I paid £12k for a 98 black type R V4 in October which had done 61k miles, had a full service history and just had its 60k service done, price sounds ok but as per previous posts find out as much as you can about the car and enjoy.

Thats the thing these Scoobs seem like bargains but have about 60-70 k miles on them, keep them for 2 years and your at 90-100k. And who the hell would want to buy a 100k Scooby! (no thanks) So your 11k will be down to something silly like 5-6 k :-( (possibly)

I'd like to see one advertised for £5 -6k!! at any mileage! You see 4Dr K platers for that still, it'd break for more than that too. No mines not for sale!!
