I can't help but feel worried when Subaru bring noddy concept cars into reality by their chief designer andreas zapatinas (guy from alfa romeo) and looks like they won't stop here...remember the B11S? the ugly nose on that isn't much different to this!
if this guy can only keep his upside down alfa nose out subaru designs, then the new cars might look a bit decent
look at the state of this (you've seen it at the recent motor shows):

In the name of all that is good and holy, that can't be right!?!?
What the **** are subaru on?
I don't think my next car will be a scoob, they are getting uglier and uglier!
I don't like the STI8, you couldn't GIVE me a STI7, and unless the Alfa bloke comes up with something special in 2006/7 (looks doubtful) I just can't see myself in another Subaru.
Can they not just give the Spec C a different shell?
Part of me would love a Spec C, but the STI8 looks like a but plug!
I can't beleive car manufacturers can get it SO wrong when it comes to design.

I think some manufacturers who develop some cars change thing for the sake of changing it, especially Japanease car makers. Some of the concept stuff they produce (and French ) just are plain stupid and have no hint of realism (compare to Jag or Fords concepts). And some of the stuff they make their home market is just plain batty.

here's a short article from AutoExpress regarding the new designs:
Subaru's Boldly No
It's back to the drawing board for Subaru styling chief Andreas Zapatinas. The man behind the B11S and the B9 Scrambler has admitted the adventurous designs have proved too much for Subaru fans and need to be changed.
Although both machines had been tipped to influence future models, including a revised Impreza, negative responses from motor show visitors have forced bosses into a rethink - and the criticism is being taken seriously.
The firm is remaining tight-lipped over an introduction date for the revised B9 Scrambler, but insiders suggest it will appear at 2005's Tokyo Motor Show. When it does arrive, the car could be based on this image below. This sketched interpretation of a production B9 Scrambler was penned exclusively for Auto Express by Lorenz Bittner, the stylist responsible for its exterior design. But even he admits it has a long way to go!

I don't think theirs anything wrong with this Subaru designer after all he designed the Lights for the MY01 and the Scoop for the MY03Sti
To pass the pedestrian safety regs(not sure of it's true name) soon all cars will look exactly the same at the front
The days are number for the Medium sized, 4Adult + Child Rally/Performance cars The Subaru Prodrive Partnership in 4WD developement has stopped them being an also ran like Mitzy. But struggling on Tarmac stages, unless very wet IMHO
Ford years ago realised this, replacing their Base WRC car, the long running Escort, with the smaller lighter Focus. The WRC should be renamed WHHRC the World Hot Hatch Rally Champonship
With the help of improved sales of the "Newage" the expected new 2006/7 car may turn up a year late 2007/8 but it may be more a 2A+2C (Peugeot 307 size) which could lend itself as a Base for the new concept spyder.
IMHO

Tony, the Focus is neither smaller or lighter than an Escort. It's a lard ****, which is why they struggled so much to get it down to the FIA minimum weight limit.
I dont agree with the rest of your muse either.

Wheelbase (mm): 2550
Front track (mm):1530
Rear track (mm): 1530

Peugeot's engineers in fact never originally wanted to use the 206 as the base for the world rallycar, as they felt it was too small to package everything efficiently, and wanted to use the 306 instead. They were overruled by the managment, who wanted to use the sport as a showcase for their new model.
The secret of the 206's success was never simply that it was short. It was a combination of good drivers, clever design, an extremely well resourced team, and, probably most importantly, an active transmission control strategy that was exceptionally tested and very well matched to the chassis.
We have seen in 2003 that as Citroen, Subaru and Ford (in particular) optimised their solutions, they've been able to make the 206 look nervous and, at times, outclassed. If Peugeot can recapture their previous success with the 307, the "smaller is better" truism will have been well and truly debunked...
