Picked up my 03 JDM sti on Wednesday from Langtree in standish (recomended) and traded in my 2000 996 C2. After a few days with the sti I have very few regrets. My girlfriend hates it but shes a snob and a car for her is just to get to the shops. The only thing I miss about the 996 is the noise and the BIG powerslides but as I found out this morning the scooby is not to shy on the powerslide front. I had a trackday booked at Evlington next week and the barstewards have gone and cancelled and I need to get it on a track ASAP any ideas of somewhere not to far from Manchester I can go soon.

The other thing I would like to ask is what preformance mods would you recomend especially to reduce the lag. What exhausts are you all running and do I need a full system or will just a backbox and induction kit do. I want an exhaust that sound nice but is not to offensive on the ear and sensible on the motorwary is the afterburner any good?

Any help or advice will be much appreciated

Thanks
Jamie

welcome to the club! it's nice to hear that you're enjoying your new car (yes forget about your girlfreind )

it's a good job that your trackday was cancelled! my goodness, are you just going to take your brand STi8 onto the track without running the engine in?

on my 03 JDM STi8 i've had a Fujitsubo Legalis Viable exhaust fitted and it is absolutely lovely. It's a custom made exhaust for the 03 Impreza to manage its power, torque and sound. the turbo lag is reduced considerably by providing maximum power by raising the boost to deliver more torque at lower rpm’s with it’s free flowing power distribution (there's a controller placed inside the cabin for auto or manual setting).

on motorway journeys, the noise is minimal but step on it then it is a completely different story...VRRRROOOOMM It's also environmentally noise freindly as you can set/reduce the sound output levels for drives in town.

in a few months time, i'll get the up and downpipes fitted to finish the job but as of now it is running very nicely already.

Pogue,

d9d is actually a picture of a black porche. Strangely enough if I enable my firewall I see the porche, if I disable the firewall I see d9d. Check your settings.

Cheers

WB

Thumbs up

jamie, i'm based in Hong Kong. Here is the exhaust being fitted to my car (covered by the 'Options' tunning magazine (don't ask me what it says...can't read it myself)

For costs, my friend works for the sole distributor out here and got it for just under £680 (based on the current HKD to GBP exchange rate). The recommended price byFujitsubo is around £730 (make out what you can from the website as it's all in Japanese). I think this exhaust would cost somewhat more then this in the UK. BTW, just in case you ask, it will cost under £50 to ship form HK to the UK by surface mail (I know cos my friend asked me about this!)

...and this is what it sounds like SOUND

I hope this helps!

cheers,
simon

well, i'm not a technical person and the fitting illustrations in the japanese manual are pretty straight forward. after taking out the standard STI exhaust the Fujitsubo fits directly into place (no need for any additional drilling of fittings). i was there in the workshop whilst the guys carried out the fitting and it took them about 1.5 hours from start to finish. the only technical thing i saw was the fitting of the controller as this is connected from the engine (i suppose it's like connecting timers and stuff) to the cabin and then runs through to the back of the exhaust to the stepping motor (controls the opening of valves for power flow).

I said I wasn't technical but people who knows what wires are what in an engine will find fitting it as easy as abc

i very much doubt thats the same sti as you have, if you bought one of the sti8s from langtree they are the new model which have equal length headers, I also have one, and there is no "subaru burble" on one of these models, sounds quiet as a mouse as standard. I would think you would get some nice sounds by changing the exhaust however I dont think you are gonna get the traditional subaru sound

Question

Jamie, are you sure it's a JDM? For example the JDM will have the DCCD?

Yes it has got DCCD and it is a JDM I have just been out playing in the wet with 100% rear bias I love this car more and more you dont need two cars with one of theese. It is RWD for mischeif and 4wd when you need to get to the off licence befor it shuts.
I need to get it on a track and it needs the soundtrack it deserves my old TT sounded better in std trim

certainly is a nice zorst but i cant help thinking how they have blatantly copied the HKS super drager design, and whats the point of having the controller?? just another gadget to keep your eyes OFF the road, if i want quiet mode i keep off the loud pedal in town. I have the super drager full de cat and it sounds better than that sound file but thats my opinion

Yes Jason I got the one with the Boost guage on the cowling. I was meant to get the other blue one but I got a better deal on this one. The DCCD is great what did you end up getting

i think you beat me to that one as that was my absolute limit price range, you must have gone down on the fri or sat morning as i got their sat afternoon and he said it was sold, that was the one i was going to look at. I got another similar car, without the dccd though, 4k miles in wr blue, still seriously quick and great fun, 03/03.

i am going to have mine remapped and i dont know if yours is the same as mine, but apparently out of the box, they are about 280-290 bhp but with a decent system, decat and panel filter are good for 330ish, so i would suggest yes a remap, jmho from what i have learned

i have spoke to bob rawle at brdevelopments about doing the remap as he has the same car, and just doing what he suggests, he said the car is good for up to 400bhp with those engine internals, as for system really not decided yet but will use a k and n panel filter. Why dont you have a look in projects forum and see the thread by bob about his project, he has the same car
