Has anyone in the Southampton area got an Igniter unit I could borrow to confirm a fault? Car is at Stealth Systems who seem to know what they're doing but we are at the mercy of the dreaded Sparsh*tts for a part. Phone me if you have please.

Personally I haven't got a clue what an igniter is.

I've built road, race and rally cars for 20 years without needing an igniter. Perhaps others are the same. If no-one knows what it is then it's hardly surprising no-ones replied.

Let me explain, its the flat black plasticky looking thing on the drivers side suspension tower next to the wastegate solenoid. It amplifies the ignition signal from the ECU to supply the LT to the coilpack primaries that sit on the inlet manifold. In all the diagrams it is labelled ignitor, which is why I called it such......and the bloke at the garage said I need one.

i belive the corrct term is an ignition amplifier

ignitor box is another term, my wife had one go £70 notes to replace,

if you can the part No,s off your local motor factor (brown bros or similar, ) may be able to cross ref for a bosch or similar item

failing that, grade A breakers,,

if Spar*****s didnt have one, surely they could have whipped one of a car to confirm the diagnosis

The car isn't at Sparsh**ts, I read this forum enough to know what most people think of them. I will try Siverlake and Charles Trent on Sat., failing that the afore mentioned lot at Hedge End. Parts dept was shut on Wednesday.
The bit is made by Diamond Electric, it says so on the side, and on their website its called an ignitor. I therefore respectfully submit, m'lud, that I do have a clue what I'm banging on about.

Shropshire-guy great offer, shame about the distance. I'm trying to get one from Charles Trent at the moment, failng that it will have to be Sparsh*tts. If you want to sell yours let me know.

I'll let you know. Trents have got two available, they need the part number but as the car is at the garage ATM I will have to wait till Monday. They have a delivery van from Poole to Southampton every day so if its the right bit we should have it by 2pm

As you were, Grade A are sending one tonight. £25+VAT and postage. Result. Lets hope it does the trick, next stop is the ECU! I don't even want to think about that.

It arrived and it all works now. Just need to restore my street cred after driving round in my daughters Ford Ka complete with furry animals.
