Wagon or 4 door?
#1
I'm still looking for my first scooby and need some help. I had set my heart on a bugeye, that was until I saw a wagon today. I have a dog which makes me think wagon, but I also like the 4 door.
Any usefull comments would be appreciated.

The waggons dont drive much differently to the saloons.
Ive got a classic, I bought my scooby on condition alone.
I saw newer cars in much worse condition.

Wagon - better handling and faster than saloon
Wagon - discrete, not in yer face like saloon
Classic - well, classic
Bugeye - Values dropping faster than a ****** knickers at Xmas!
All in my opinion of course!

Pure stealth!
No hasstle, no green eye's, no bother with the rozzers and goes like stink!
After TT's, Merc's, BM's this is the best piece of kit by FAR! and I can carry the Mutt to the park, the household stuff to the dump. And be home in time for the footie!

I had the same problem about 16 months ago, will I or wont I,,and what will my mates think because they are all car mad aswell,,
after having a 91 sierra cosworth 4x4,then a 94 celica,it was time for a scooby, the sound alone is the dogs,at the end of the day I went for a 95 jap import,,savage car, 241bhp and 287nm torque, but the amount of turbo look a likes put me off the 4 door,so 6 weeks ago I went for a 97 jap import wagon, best car Ive had by far,and much better on the road than the 4 door, this one only had a TDO4 turbo, untill today, now she has a IHI VF23 and intercooler to match, some change, anyway,,last word.....WAGON.....

No comment really
But, just as a help, the top 2 scoobs at the Scooby Shootout in September were Wagons
Harvey Smith STi6 - 11.7 Qtr
Steve Darley UK Turbo MY00 12.1 Qtr
That is well
On a practical level, the classics handle better and are lighter than the equivalent bugeye

Long Live the Classic Wagon
Of course they are better than the 4-door, Subaru knew that - thats why mine cost £1000 MORE than the equivalent Saloon.

Can definately recommend the wagon. Got an MY00 classic wagon a couple of weeks back, got it from a main dealer and got extended warranty, dog guard thrown in (£120 worth). Worth also getting the boot liner - damn expensive but keeps things clean - mine came with one .
Try Subaru approved as a starting point, you may have to pay a bit more, but you should be able to get an extended warranty. Mine was £250 for another 2 years.
Just a small warning - classic wagon are a bit like rocking horse poo at the moment, so don't expect to get one tomorrow! Keep an eye on the boards and Subaru approved, or better yet call all the dealers around you and let them know what you are looking for.

Agreed - wagon for practicality, stealth and all the points above
I have an 03 wagon, and when parked next to Steven(P20SPD)'s MY00 wagon in Girlie Pink Mica, mine looks 'kin ugly. Mind you, Steven's is on 18" technopimpo wheels with rather nice mods...
Mine doesn't rattle too much tho

Just pick up my fist scoob last weekend a MY00 blue classic wagon. I bought it because I think its better looking and rarer then the 4 door. I got mine from a dealer, it's extra but worth it for the warrenty and the breakdown cover.
Park it nose in and hopefully not raise too much interest from scum who might steal it or damage it.
Try http://www.subaru.co.uk/index2.htm and look under appoved cars (the tick at the bottom) to find your nearest dealer.
Good hunting!!!

What can I say? I'm going with the flow... Stealth, practicality. And I bet they've generally been looked after better than some of the 4-doors that have been through five boy-racer owners.

Got an MY02 Blue WRX wagon. Its practical and roomy, its also a bit different. Handle's ok if you've not had a saloon and also build is pretty good.
I also brought the headlamp covers. These kinda break up the light at the front and really settle down the looks and its not so obvious, but so subtle you wouldn't notice it unless put side by side with a bug eye with no headlamp covers.

Further to someones' comment regarding the rarety of classic wagons... Admas Subaru in Aylesbury, Bucks have about 4-5 at the moment. All nice ones - especially a blue mica one with black leather interior. They're priced at about £12k
The guy there wasnt willing to move on price but he did offer to throw in a Tracker, 4 new tyres, 6 months tax, MOT and dog guard for free.

Goochie - sounds like the kinda deal I got. Mine was £12995 with leather and a few goodies in from new (including the Imprezza turbo mats and a boot protector mat). Mine is dark blue Mica with blue / black leather Clicky if ya want to get some idea of how the leather looks.
Didn't haggle on thier price, but pushed on the trade in value of mine and got the dog guard, MOT, service, tyres etc etc + 2 yrs warrant for an extra £250 notes. Not too bad as the dog guard is £120.
