if you've kept as standard have you had any problems with the car at all?
May swap from a GX. If well looked after will the car be reliable as the GX?
dont want to fork out £15k on a 'decent' second hand 02 WRX to be disappointed/pissed off.
how common compared with say the 'family focus' are problems with 02 WRXs?
cheers

New radiator @ 15000 miles. Reports of rear shocks failing, a problem I might have but haven't investigated yet. Oh, and rear brakes.
Probably still better than average.

Not had anything go on mine at all - 100% perfect so far.
Only mod Ive got is back box, soon to be full system with sports cat of some sort because im hoping to keep it a while.

Had a MY02 WRX until recently.
Had to have the gearbox stripped down at 9,000 miles, which the dealer did under warranty. Apparently a gear selector fork had broken.
However the dealer did say they had never seen that happen before.
The problem didn't put me off replacing the car with a MY03 STi!

Hmmm - MY 02 gearbox whines in first gear, sounds like reverse - booked in for Jan5th so they can change the cog and bearings? Want to keep it for a week!
Also having a new heater fitted/new stereo and they fitted me an STi backbox as the stock twin pipes made a weird squeek!!
Get UK and warranty and you'll be well looked after I reckon.

33k miles on mine and not a whimper
haven't treated her gently either
oh and she's far from standard - although despite what people say, good quality aftermarket mods are less likely to cause trouble than the original parts IMO

Rad was under warranty. IIRC shocks are not covered. Brakes was a problem that would not be spotted until MOT time.
PS mine = Belgian Import with 3 year warranty.

Very happy with my Nov '02 WRX. Had no problems at all with it, added PPP from new along with morettes, PD7 alloys and a Prodrive quickshift.
12 months and 20K miles of very happy motoring (my first Scoob). No hint of clutch judder which I was concerned about a bit from other posts on here, nothing has gone bang and nothing has stopped working, never seen a warning light.
Make the move, you know you want to!
Cheers
Richard.

Ok, well i have to put a dampener on things. However this is all an a US model 02 WRX wagon.
3rd and 5th gear replaced twice - first time less than 2000 miles, second time, 23,000 miles
5th gear baulk ring, 23,000 miles
clutch 23,000 miles
Brakes, front, 17,000 miles - warped rotor and premature pad wear.
Rear shock, pass side, 31,000 miles
coil pack, 31,000 miles
new tranny 35,000 miles
Standard stuff, new wiper blades and it needs new tires.
I've heard before that the US models are the worst for quality, stacked against the other reports in this thread i guess so.
Good luck,
James.
