its not just subaru drivers who mod their cars, virtually every other type of car on the road has had people doing some sort of mod to it plus if you could just hand pick the specification of you subaru how expensive do think it would be, the price of a decent front mount bigger turbo and bigger injectors etc with the guarantee it wont blow from subaru would be damned expensive

My MY00 Classic Wagon is as supplied by Subaru. Not quite out of the box standard, but the mods were all factory or dealer fitted prior to delivery, short throw gear change, leather interior and larger "gold" wheels (I got it second hand).
OK I lied, extas include:
Dog guard
CD changer
Tracker
Road Angel
PDA Based SAT Nav

That's why Evo's cost more Paul !!
Modding is down to personal choice and how much you can afford to throw at a car - personally I love the Scoob image and I'm really enjoying the 'minor' mods I've had done !!

I had a MY01 WRX and changed everything possible on it, well almost. Then realised what a waste of time it was and got a P1 which will be staying standard.

I think that every single Impreza around my area has been modded, even the sports going about seem to have clear indicators and back boxes!
Funnily enough, the Subaru dealer always has plenty standard ones... hmmmm?

evos don't seem to get modded as much as scoobs because there is less wrong with them as standard ie: 276bhp, 17" wheels big spoiler etc

My STI Type RA is still as STI intended. I think the only thing i'll end up changing is the back box. the STI back box just doesnt let enough burble through. Oh, and i might add the central locking back in too. Family is p1ssed at having to wait in the cold and rain for me to lean over and open all the doors!
I would like to get a remap done but i need a new ECU for that and cant really justify the £1500 quid when im satisfied with the performance out of the box .

My WRX01 is standard and i had no intention of modifying it until I found this website. After reading all the different threads on the power people are getting from their scoobys. I now want to modify mine. I believe the costs are fairly cheap to get a substantial increase compared to other cars. I think everyone wants to go faster and be better than the cars on the road, otherwise why would you buy a scooby in the 1st place??
Its all about recognition whether in the scooby community or on the road!!

Its the classic 'Max Power' brigade.
Most of us grow out of it by the time we reach 20
STI7 standard of course (nothing to with the warranty, honest)

I blame scoobynet ... i had my 93wrx for 18months, and the only thing i changed was the oil ...... then i logged onto scoobynet, went to a couple of meets, and now ive got this strange modding bug..!!!
So, if Mr Subaru put all the mods onto the car at the showroom, apart from them costing a mint, there's still always someone who's going to come along and devise something.

the reaon why so few cars are totally standard is that even manufacturers like subaru ( as well as mitsubishi, bmw, and to a lesser extent ferrair lamborghini etc) have to make compromises on the car to fuel efficiency, emissions, engine wear and tear, etc.
the reaon why people mod them is that that they accept that these compromises have to be done and then just say 'fu*k it, ill do it anyway', for performance, individuality and for the fact that they know theyll probably be a slight bit quicker than the next scooby.
'standard cars...just say no!!!!'
