Have now outrun the following in my pretty standard 03 WRX (252bhp), to name but a few:
Focus RS (enjoyed that)
TT - 225 Turbo and 3.2
Porsche Boxster - 2.5 and 2.7 (but not 3.2)
Porsche 964
Porsche 993
BMW 330i
Honda S2000
BMW 540i
Acccord Type R
Civic Type R (lots)
Lotus Elise Mk 1&2
Clio 172
VW Golf R32 (which was close)
Alfa 147 GTA (just - in a straight line)
Ever had a decent "battle" with something?

There was a 3 wheel version about as well but I can't find any pictures of it, saw it at Santa Pod a long time back.
But in answer to your question, I have a MY00 Wagon and not really had any head to head's worth mentioning. There is a really silly set of traffic lights on the way to work. Left lane is left turn only and right lane is straight on and right (and it doesn't have a right turn green light ). I usually potter up the left hand lane to avoid the queue, not had anything that caused me any concern yet.

That all sounds reasonable to me......except the 993 Porsche (unless wet). 0-60 in 5.1 secs and 0-100 in 12 secs. There's not a big difference between 993 and 996 in terms of performance.
I kept up with a 996 C4 the other day, but that was going all out and in my 310bhp Type R.
However, well done! I do like to play with other cars, so long as it's safe(ish) to do so and done in good spirit.

Little Clanger - R32 was on a dual carriageway and braking for roundabouts he had much better brakes and I'm sure the Golf has far superior aerodynamics!
Boxsters - cross country, he gained a lot on the brakes, held me on the corners, but I pulled away in a straight line!
RS - very gradual only started gaining anything once into 3rd!
MadGypsy - A friend has suggested it may have been Tiptronic, but was a very close, smoking full bore start .....
The 996 3.6 Carrera 2 I drove recently was way faster than the 993 I drove previously - and with the sports suspension - add 5mph to every corner!

Had a good run with a Lotus Elise 111s a while back between Charing and Chillam in Kent, beat him in my MY00 standard scooby. When got to the roundabout in Chillam he pulled up alongside me with big smile and gave me the thumbs up.
Also chased a Volvo S40 sport thing who was on a bit of a mission, we both slowed after he hit a fox at about 80mph. (Adrenalin is brown!)
Lots of fun

Had a run in with a Boxster S the other day. From a rolling start I pulled away from him quite a bit, but not loads. He apeared a few minutes later up my **** at about 90-100mph, I put my foot down and pulled away from him VERY slowly. I was surprised as I have frightened the bejesus out of a few Boxster drivers before.
I didn't know the S version was so much faster.
I guess I expect too much from my Type R at times. If a car doesn't dissapear like it's going backwards, I start thinking about serious mods to ensure these inferior cars (Porsche's, BMW's etc ) never keep up again.

Paul - Ok - used to be Vice Chairman of Club VR6 so well familiar with MK2 conversions .... my MK3 was still quicker - albeit with 230bhp and 240lb/ft of torque!
Yup blue R32!
MadGypsy - Apparently the power figures for the "S" are conservative and even though they quote 260bhp - they usually have a bit more - and are very aerodynamic for high speed stuff! I can keep up until they get into 3rd gear - then they waft away!

No - bloke in R32
Yup but normally the Mk2 owners don't spend several thousand pounds on their VR6 engine tuning - and putting that engine in swallows a lot of the weight advantage (they are then about 980kg)! Mk3 Vr6 = 1180kg
Mk2 2.8 VR6 conversion (standard) = 180bhp/ton
Mk2 2.9 VR6 conversion (standard) = 194bhp/ton
My old Mk3 = 200bhp/ton (and racing wishbone bushes and engine mounts for more traction)
1.8T will be a stormer ....

Not doubting your integrity m8 - but where exactly have you outrun this fabulous list of cars? I have only managed to come across a few of these cars on the normal roads - and certainly not enough to claim i have "beaten them"

that is a pretty impressive list and emphasizes what is so good about Imprezas. I now drive a 944 Turbo, which is quicker than my previous RB5 WR. But I was last week whooped by a classic shape WRX, simply because I couldnt put the power down on the slightly slippery roads. Floored it in second and by the time I had the car pointing in a straight line the WRX was not worth chasing. All good fun though . Bring on the summer! (by the way Mark I work in Bourne End so if I ever come up behind you on a nice summers day, dry roads, you with 4 people in the car, etc I will try to regain some Porsche honour )

Wrx 03 - I know .....
Jza - No problem. Where do you live? Compton in Cornwall, Berkshire, Hamshire, or West Sussex?
Basically I'm right in the heart of the Thames Valley and due to the "Silcon Valley" effect and my proximity to London - they're all over the place!

RB5320 - Really - where abouts do you work? And the 220 or 250bhp version?
My buddy has a Black 944T SE - chipped to about 300bhp and in the dry I wouldn't see him for dust .....

Mark - just by Dukes Meadow ind estate.
Mine is a 250 BHP Turbo S, which I intend to get chipped once my right foot learns a bit of restraint . Like you say - impressive in the dry, can be embarassing in the wet

What is amazing is that everyone is saying my mates modified car can do this and that. He has a standard 03 WRX. Cars he raced all standard by sounds of it. Independent magazine test listings show WRX quicker to 60 than all the rest bar the porsche.

I like to have the odd race for a laugh and have played with all sorts - but my faves are the drivers that think their car is soooo superior (e.g any BMW driver - but anything less than a 330i is boring, and all those TT drivers who think they have bought a sportscar ...)
Lightning101 - Yup have played with Stuart Knight (who has a 340bhp classic) and until I am well into 3rd gear we are fairly even! 0-60 is less relevant than 0-100 or 30-70 through the gears though. Some I have played with cross country, tight and twisting roads (a la Boxsters), but a lot on Dual Carriageways where the Scoobs traction advantage becomes transmission losses and a lack of Aerodynamics - then it's a fairer fight! What do you drive?
