On my STI 8 it's set to 6000rpm, but is this the "best" setting??
Do you switch it off or do you have just the red light coming on??
I'm interested to see what poeple are doing

63. Just an extra warning, gives me plenty of time to hang in on the gas if I need to. Actually not a strictly necessary item, but I like it 'cos my passengers ask what it's for and me and my mates all like gadgets

Got mine ecuteked with full de-cat system so am running more boost all the way up to the red line. Currently got mine set on 7200. Any higher and by the time you have realised and changed gear your bouncying off the limiter. Great little gadget especially at night when the light shows up nice and clearly.

I initially set mine at 7000 rpm to warn me of the approaching red line, but then realised that the torque is decreasing at this point in the rev range and that there is no point in driving at such high revs.
Since my torque curve is pretty much flat between 35000 and 6000 rpm (Ecutek remap etc.) I now have the alarm set at 6000 rpm so that I stay in the flat part of the torque curve when going up through the gears.

So? let me get this clear ..... you NEED a BLEEP BLEEP to tell you where the Rev Counter Needle is pointing?? Has it ACTUALLY got a needle?
Is this the only car to be owned and driven by people who can't drive???

Is it me or is pslewis a bit slow or just self-delusional? No-one above - me included - says they NEED it. We just like having another flashing light and beepy noise for the sheer gadget-freakery of it

Mines set at 6500, by the time I change gear it's ususally at around 6800.
It's useful when accelerating hard, you get the red mist "fixed stare" and do not realise the revs have climbed up so quickly...catches me out sometimes when I concentrating on what's going on outside the car more than the engine note.
Surely it's like having a knock link sensor?...
"a little light to tell you when your caning the car a bit too hard"?

For anyone trying to be smart and say why do you need this. Well when your at those sorts of revs its much safer to be looking at the road waiting for the beep or the light, then it is to try and watch the rev counter.

Yep - your car has a limiter Pete, somewhere around the 7k mark.
I simply can't believe that people need a beep to tell them when to change gear. Bloody useless IMO. Think about it! By the time the beep has gone through the ear and has been processed by the brain into a physical reaction it will be too late. I am quite happy using engine note, experience and how the car feels under wot to enable me to decide when to change gear
I'd be quite happy to race someone with a beep in an identical car minus the beep and i'll prove that the beep is useless cos you ain't gonna beat me with it
