i have a noise which kicks in at around 2000 revs and then goes and sometimes at higher revs. it sounds a bit like a heat shield to me but i can;t get it to make the noise when it isn't driving. could it be something else?

the usual heat shield noise from the exhaust is found under the drivers front side.
If it has an undertray on you will need to remove it. then you will see a large pan type thing in that corner, give it a cloat to see it is noisey..

I've had pretty much the same thing, always around 3000 revs when backing off throttle, mainly when stationary but sometimes when on the move. Turns out it was something to do with the exhaust or one of the heat shields attached to it.
