Squeaky seatbelts!!
#1
The driver side seatbelt release on my MY99 has recently started making a very annoying sqeaking noise on bumpy roads when fastened. The noise seems to be the metal tag on the belt rubbing against something in the seatbelt latch unit. I tried a bit of reasonably thick oil in the latch part but it hasn't helped.
Questions:
- anyone else had this problem?
- is it easy to disassemble the latch unit and add a bit of grease?
- any other ideas to try and fix it (100 mile trip to dealer!)

This happems to me.. I think. As I'm driving along - I can hear a squeak coming from inside the plastic cover in the B pillar somewhere. How I fix it (I have to do this every few months) is by several rapid pulls of the seat belt until it locks. The squeak then goes away.

HA! Success at last, i am now rid of the sqeaky seatbelt (well, for the time being...) I managed to stop the squeak using a combination of tactics - not sure exactly which one worked!
1) Have a look at the silver tag and check to see if there are any rough bits on it, or areas where it looks like it is rubbing inside the latch unit. I used a Dremel to carefully ease a couple of rough spots on mine
2) Press the white bit you can see inside the latch unit with a screwdriver (ie imitating the action of the metal tag) and put some thick grease in here (oil is too thin) I used a wide bore needle and syringe to inject the grease just where i wanted it.
3) fasten belt a few times and give some good yanks!!
This seems to have cured the squeak from the latch unit and also from the pillar.
Hope this helps!
