newsflash; STI TYPE R VER5 GIVES PORKER 996 CARRERA 4 HELL!!!
#1
Coming back onto the slip of the hammersmith junct of the A40 towards west london last night and had 996 Carrera 4 pull up next to me looking for some fun.... couldn't resist and too my suprise, gave him hell!!!
He could not get away... funny how you don't realise how fast your scooby is until you pit it up against somethin else!
He didn;t look too happy at the lights... maybe the fact that he must have paid around 60k for his porker and my humble 15k's worth of STI enginneering gave him hell!
I on the other hand was well chuffed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the one car I want a play with, especially a C2 in the wet.
I had a play with one of those Cayenne Turbo's and kept up no problems.
I've had a couple of mini run-ins with M3's (in the dry) and kept up with them. and I destroyed a MK4 Supra the other night (it was VERY wet) That was the most fun I've had in the scoob (with my trousers on)
P.S I've got a 310bhp Type R

Cayenne Turbos's are fast! When I had a play with one I was stuck to his bumper like glue. When he pulled over I started to pass him, but at the slowest rate imaginable! I don't know who was more shocked, me or him.

Torque rules......Cayenne always gonna win.
Do you think the guy in the Porker was that bothered about losing to a jap 4 dr saloon? Replace 4 door jap saloon with max-ed up Nova on nitro, and do you think he'd have sleepless nights over it?
Anyone can spend a fraction of the cost of a 911 on a car & beat a 911. What does that prove though? It won't have the pleasing feel-good factor of owning a 911C4.

Sorry but a max'd up nova on nitro might not handle like a type r scooby with all the trimmings. to be honest if i had enough money i would buy a noble. Sorts out any perf. debates and in terms of looks and individuality it is 2nd to none.

Of course a std nova on nitro would not handly like a TypeR or 911, but then the orginal poster seems to imply he was on the A40 into London which i am assuming is a long relatively straight road/dual carriageway????
If so, don't need much handling prowess.....my question remains, do you think the 911C4 driver really gave a toss.

No, you wouldn't.
If you were driving a £70k 911C4 (or however much they are) or a £65k Cayenne Turbo, I think you'd laugh at him, admire them for trying to do as best they can with their measly salary, and settle back into the nice comfy feeling that you can afford a car most can't

Do you know anyone who owns a 911 because it doesnt sound like it? The reason you buy a 70k supercar is to drive it!! I have several friends who own or have owned one and i can assure you being beaten by a scooby(or any other such underpriced vehicle) is a deaply traumatic experience, on a stretch of d/carriage way esp.

If I had a 911 I wouldn't give a monkeys toss if a scoob kept up with me. I'd be to busy looking good!
However, the owners of more expensive cars do seem a little pissed when you keep up or pass them.

Err....I know plenty of people with exotica. They know enough about cars to know that their car may not be the fastest or MAY be able to be beaten by either a 4dr jap saloon or a souped up Nova, but it doesn't concern them unduly.
Thing with NovaBoy and Jap4drBoy is that getting into higher speeds, torque is king, and the exotica will probably see them off.....if not, who cares. They've probably got enough dosh to have a variety of exotica.....sitting in their 4 car garage

If torque is king, then take a look at these figures.
Porsche 911 Carrera 4 273lb/ft @ 4250rpm.
My Type R 283lb/ft @ 3994rpm.
Porsche 911 316bhp @ 6800rpm and 1405kg
My Type R 310bhp @6613rpm and 1260kg
Looks pretty close to me. Though I'd still give my Type R, my right arm and my left ****** for a 911 C4.

The Cayenne does have 457lb/ft @ 2250rpm but weighs 2,355kg. That's more than a 1,000kg more than a type R
Don't forget power to weight. My Type R has in excess of 230bhp/ton. A Cayenne turbo has 194bhp/ton.
A Caterham 7 R500 has only got 150lb/ft but can hit 60mph in 3.6 and 100mph in 8.8 seconds With an impresive 507bhp/ton

Well... by the way he was swerving in and out of all three lanes like a snake with me firmly on his tail......
I THINK HE GAVE A TOSS..
I think you seem to have misunderstood my origional post imlach... let me enlighten you.
I was mearly expressing the fact that pound for pound, you can get as much exhilaration out of the Impreza's we own, as you can out of a 911. To be precise, a 996 which is the car I reffered to in my origional post for your information.
It was not meant to be a comparison of pleasure of ownership or or the whole status thing of owning a Porsche.
Having had the plesure of being fortunate enough to set my humble shoes on the pedals of a lesser C2 version of the 996, I have deep regret in informing you that the near double or triple price you would pay for it, is not justified in my view.
Although as you are aware there are people who feel that owning a Porsche would maybe increase the size of there manhood...to them...this price difference may be justified?
Oh and by the way... it's a 2-door with about 315 horses.
The moral of this post.....
GROW A SENSE OF HUMOR!

SCOOBNOV - I have a perfectly good sense of humour, hence why I replied to your orginal post on this thread where it was YOU who was discussing the vastly increased size of your manhood since you performed this stunning feat

That is also your view. There is more to it for some people than just speed & acceleration. A body shape not based on a quite ordinary & cheap 4 door saloon car for one.....
Yes, in sheer value for money terms, a Porsche may not cut it in your eyes, but I doubt you'd ever buy a Rolex either.
I suspect you're more of a Timex man.
