My understanding was that GATSOs were set to 10% + 2 mph.
Therefore in 30 mph speed limit it would be 35 mph, so ching ching.
When I had my old 309GTi speedometer checked years ago at a place that calibrates police vehicles, the technician stated that speedometers have to be within -0% +7%.
By the way, the Vegelia clock was spot on upto the 90 mph limit of the test.

I can only speak for the cameras in my force area, and I can tell you its 10% + 10 mph over the limit.

As for the forces with zero tolerance, bring it on! lol
Lets see a court convict a driver of a non-calibrated car for driving at 31 or 32 mph!!!!
Prosecutions of this type have happened in the past and "expert" witnesses from car manufacturers have actually given evidence in the defence of the speeding driver to the effect that the car WAS probably indicating a legal speed, yet the driver was actually "speeding". (if you can call 32 or 33 mph speeding)
It is NOT worth the legal systems time to prosecute these cases as they will get off almost every time, unless the plonker driver pleads guilty!

Every speedo should over read. i.e. tell you that you are going faster than you actually are.

Put it this way, do you know anyone with a calibrated speedometer in their private car?
I don't.
Mass produced cars have speedometers that marginally over read, so that the speedo reads more than the cars real speed.
The main reason is, if the driver were to claim that their speedo was reading EXACTLY 30 mph, but the calibrated camera calculated their speed at 32 mph, there is no way a person would get convicted, as they had done everything that could reasonably be expected of them by maintaining 30 mph or less.

Its like drink driving prosecutions for example.
The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 milliletres of breath, but if you provide a specimen between 35 and 39 microgrammes, you are not prosecuted to take into account discrepancies in the measuring device etc.
40 microgrammes and above, you are done.

Driving along a country road, just been made a 40mph limit, when a car coming towards me flashes his lights and waves ......... I am too busy trying to work out who it was that I fail to see the 2 prize ***** coppas hiding in the bushes!!!! Now, they are pointing something at me - looks like a radar gun but appears to have a camera on it?? It was hand-held, is there such a device?? I reckon I was doing 50mph - but when I realised what was happening I slammed my brakes on and dropped FAST to 30mph .... will I have been too late?? Why do they have to hide in the bushes??

all within 10 days. Yes ok for the purests I accept the speeds but what an **** fortnight. had clean licence for 10 years before this ! (i guess it all caught up at once.
Anyone else had this ??

And the FIRST ching ching didn't make you a bit more aware??

This being the case, a gatso doesn't flash in a 30 mph limit until...
30 + 3(10%) + 10 = 43 mph.
A gatso would not flash you at 36 mph for the simple reason, 6 mph does not allow for un-calibrated discrepancies in factory speedos.

Even the **** of a copper who stopped me three years ago for the heinous crime of 97mph on a clear dry virtually empty motorway told me that 85mph was OK. (BTW he was a **** as he lied on his statement about my replies and general conduct, but that's another story).
Won't be long until there's no one left on the road as we'll all have been banned.

Yup, I've always been under the impression that speed cameras were set to the limit + 10% + 2mph, so 35, 46, 57, 68 and 79 mph. Which would mean that you were going over the threshold speed in all those cases. Certainly I've had flashes from them on the motorway at an indicated 81, although fortunately on that occasion it can't have had film in because I didn't ever get a NIP for it.

Bloody unlcuky to find 3 of them with film in in that space of time. Plod reckons that most of them don't as they can't afford to keep the maintenance up.
Time to buy a Road Angel if you want to keep that license and maybe a laser jammer!

Total nonsense in Essex it's normally set at 38 in a 30 and some counties did have a zero tolerance on speeding.
I've neve been that unlucky with the points but quite a few moons ago I did have 5 accidents in 11 days None of which were my fault 3 of which I was stationary.
I wouldn't want your premiums next year that's for sure

81 and 80 on the motorways seems a bit harsh , even the inside lane is pushing 80 plus sometimes , I presume it wasn't in a contraflow/roadworks ?

Unlucky mate, did achieve 9 points in two weeks myself, 6 of which were on a motorway with a police camera action style recording from an unmarked (looks good watchin yerself on t.v.!!!), the court appearance ain't nice though. An then lo an behold a 3 pointer a week later from a 'chips' fan with his handheld!!
Yer should be looking out fer the fixed cameras though, these are the easier ones to avoid imho.
Ne'er mind, only 3 yrs to go!! though insurance will be a bitch!
