At least the Scoob isn't stuck with that old-school iron block inline engine
I'd prefer an inline iron engine than a flat four chocolate one

what is this twin scroll all about?

Question

Hi,

I dont actuali own a scooby but have always wandered what it is that makes them have that distinctive roar when you open up the throttle??

Is it the actual engine or exhaust system that makes the sorta barble noise??

Flat four configuration with unequal length headers (exhaust manifold) - i.e. the two "halves" of the flat four have different length for gas to travel from cyllinder head to turbo. Change to equal length headers, and it sounds more like a motorbike.

The Exhaust system is responsible for the characteristic noise. It is because of the unequal length headers of the exhaust manifold.

You could always make a recording of the sound and play it on your ICE at full volume

Apart from the noise, is there any advantage to having unequal length headers?

It's a disadvantage - that's why the latest JDM models have equal length headers with the twin scroll turbo.

Isn't the scoob engine block weaker than the traditional iron ones ?

Subaru have also fitted the updated Legacy H6 with equal length headers, along with an ecu map to free an extra 35+bhp, which equates to 15% increase over the old one.

Not that I get much 'bob-bob-bob' noises from the H6

Ahh and then thers the straight four burble!!

it exsists,,,

Saab 900 turbo

the distinct burble was caused by the design of the exhaust manifold, and it fed into a turbocharger before being exited

IMHO it was just as good as the scooby burble,,,, question is who was there first

The short answer to that question is no, especially if you're

Subaru have also fitted the updated Legacy H6 with equal length headers,
All the new Subarus are getting them. The Japanese and US spec Impreza STi's have them this year. The WRX and N/A cars will get them soonish.
