Top Gear

Hi there everyone! I'm new hear - just picked up my MY03 STI PPP this week and loving it (except for the 4K limit - which I keep to MOST of the time!). Been reading the messages for a few months now. Previous car was a Beemer 330CI - nice car, but just a tad boring and never had this sort of following - makes you feel really proud of the car.
Anyway, a quick question - someone mentioned that Top Gear did a back to back test of the Evo III vs STI PPP back in June this year. Does anyone have a decent quality recording of this? Any chance I could send you a tape and you'd do a copy for me?
Cheers.

Gubbins,
welcome to Scoobynet. If I recall it was very close between the 2 cars but the STi wins for day to day drivability but the Evo has it's good points too. I've got a really crappy image uploader so won't post the article on here (text will be too small to read). Give me your email address and I'd be happy to scan the article for you
Cheers,
Simon

Just dug out of my archives for you the top gear episode (36Mb AVI)
I'm sure someone will oblige and make it a clicky.
www.wjwain.com/scoobynet/hco_topgear.2003.06.15.WRX-STi-TUK_vs_EvoVIII.divx503.avi
I'll leave it there for a few days.
Billy.

Thanks Paul - do you have a web-site I could download it from? Otherwise, could you email me on neturner_uk@yahoo.co.uk and maybe we could sort something else out?
iDLe* - 330Ci was very nice car - had the sport model, m3 look-a-like, without the quad pipes/bonnet bulge. Very smooth and relaxing to drive, quality car....but....no one ever comes up to you and says it's a nice car, no one ever let's you out - in fact, I got the nasty impression most folk thought I was a cocky w@*n&er, which I'm not! Also, just a tad BORING - I feel more at home in the Scooby - less pretentious (well - if you don't count the bulges and spoilers!)
So, I wanted something a bit different. Looked at a TT (too small - got twin girls to think about), Scooby garage 2 mins down the road (Crossroads/Shipston-on-Stour) and couldn't resist one after I drove one of their STI PPP's with a silly bus-door-like dump value fitted! So much bloody fun!
However, it's really divided my friends/family's opinion. Looks like you either love em or hate em, nowt in the middle. I could do without the big spoiler I suppose, but who cares when you're in it!
Cheers

There's an Autocar special out at the moment with an STI vs Evo shootout as well.
Not particularly interesting; other than the little side panel about how the competition has really improved over the last few years and how STI/WRX performance is no longer 'special' compared to the Focus RS, Elises, Golf R32, etc.
Perhaps Subaru need to shock the industry again, produce something like a shortened wheelbase compact impreza, with S202 internals, prodrive ATD, loads more grunt as standard, all for around 20k

WJW - thanks for posting this - truly awesome clip from Top Gear
Great opening track from Primal Scream and top level filming/editing backed up with Clarkson's unique style and awesome script:
"Nothing........nothing compares you for the shock the first time you take this thing round a corner........take a test drive honestly, take a test drive"
"...this Subaru is a hugely manly experience.......the noises.....it even smells of man.....the essence of....(sniff)....burnt clutch.....splash it on befoe you go out for a curry....and a fight"
Well tempered with reality:
"....and inside both have wilfully flimsy interiors....."
"....on the outside the Subaru tries to lighten up with it's pink and gold jewellery but both these cars really are shamelessly aggressive"
