Silly question......
I have just checked my oil level, and found it to be a little low. Like not showing on the dip-stick.....
I have not long had the car serviced & cannot get intouch with the garage who carried out the service. Can someone advise which would be a good Oil to use for top-up.
Thanks Guy's

Good Bl--dy jobs it's not gone in yet, I was going to drop the filter before topping up, as I do every thousand miles. back to the garage in the morning for some fully synthetic, its been a long week....!!

As has been said, Magnatec is not a full synth. Furthermore, it's just not a very good oil. It's also incorrect to say that synthetic and mineral oils "don't mix". They do (what do you think semi-synth oils are?
), and while it's not ideal, using a synthetic to top up mineral (or vice versa) is better than letting the oil level drop too low.
Pnbond: If your car has more than 7-8000 miles on the clock, you'd do well to get rid of the Magnatec and put some Mobil 1 Motorsport 15/50, Motul 300V 15/50 or Castrol RS 10/60 in, then insist your garage uses the same when the service the car.

Greasemonkey , i thought if you tried to mix synthetic and mineral 'off the shelf' (as opposed to a specifically making semi-syntetic in a factory) then it creates blockages in oilways because mineral and synthetic don't like to mix and trying sends some of the oil 'gooey' (getting technical now
) but i could be completely wrong (

Am getting worried .. Topped up oil 2 weeks ago and threw away bottle . It cost me £12 I think from Halfords and was Mobil 1 fully synth. but not sure if it said 0-40w or 10/40w . Plus never checked if dealer is using fully synth !
Does it matter ? .. I defo bought fully synth. Mobil 1 . Are there 2 kinds ? The old memory isnt as good these days !!!

Steve, Mobil 1 is fully synthetic, and there are indeed two types. However, the two types are the "normal" sort, which is 0w/40, and the "Motorsport" version, which is 15w/50. Thus it very much sounds like you put the 0w/40 version in.
It's thinner than ideal if you're talking about the whole fill, but neither here nor there if you're topping up.
It's certainly no problem at this time of year; I use a 50/50 mix of 0w40 and 15w/50 Mobil 1 during the "cold" months anyway.
