I realise this is not when I go over the top when washing the motor but could anyone gimme a hand with exactly what this refers to...

This comes from a neighbour who was commenting on my car but said "Don't they scrub tires really badly" to which I replied "I dunno mate but it goes like sh*t off a stick"!

Just thought I should find out what the old git was talking bout

I think its excessive wear on the outer edges of the tyre???? As all 4 of mine currently are

Is it a a 4WD AWD thing ?

What makes this happen and why...can it be stopped?

same here, though not done by me. I thought previous owner must have been really chucking it about, but seems this may be normal?

the "old git" is probably refering to the fact permanent 4WD vehicles scrub tyres badly. The impreza isnt designed like the older 4x4's, it is AWD, not 4WD and beause of the diffs used on this type of AWD vehicle you dont get excesive scrubbing.

If you have OEM geometries, you do tend to kill the outer edges of the tyres, but thats not the same thing as what the "old git" is refering to.
