Guys,

lots of people justify PPP on the warranty and additional value added to vehicle at px time. Is this actually the case? Does PPP add about 1k to a 3 year old vehicle on trade in?

Who cares it sounds great adds more performance, warranty is sound and better mpg believe it or not.

In three years I'm not gonna be overly fussed. If it adds more money that's great. To be honest I'm so busy enjoying the car three years is eons away

I've been quoted £500 by a Subaru dealer on trade-in prices so don't instal PPP and expect to get your money back.

Very generally and most dealer's I know use as a guide Any Subaru Upgrades (PPP,PHP and Leather etc.) adds about Half of the original value to the car. eg wrx PPP £1600 = £800 STi PPP £2000 = £1000 etc, etc, but the Value of PPP outside of Warranty time could of coarse be less IMHO.IFAICR

Thanks for the help everyone.

....so, if I don't plan to sell car then what's the best way to spend about 2k? Do I wait until warranty up (2 years) and go aftermarket for about 330bhp or go PPP now for 300bhp??

I went down the PPP route because I knew that I would be keeping the car for more than three years. When it came to extending the original manufacturers warranty from 3 to 5 years the PPP is completely covered. So I paid £350 for another two years of worry free motoring. Oh and by the way, anyone who tells you that these cars are bullet proof is talking cr*p in my opinion. I've had quite a few silly problems which have all been covered by the warranty:

- clutch replaced
- problem with fifth gear popping out
- clutch sticking (actually sorted out by the engineer at Prodrive when he fitted the quickshift!)
- shoddy build quality - boot closed and couldn't be opened, passenger visor was pulled down and then fell off!
- duff immobiliser keyfob
- etc...

I would not own a Subaru without a warranty, period.

My wife's MX-5 however, has never had a single problem - not one. It has been perfect.

I'd go for the PPP & extended warranty if you want an easy life. If I was buying an MY00 now, I would only consider a standard or a PPP'd car with an extended warranty... I would be willing to pay extra for the peace of mind

Just my opinion! Hey, maybe I'm just a Wuss!

Have you got an STi8?

Mark.

PS. I'm ready for the abuse!

Andy best bet is to find a dealer close to you who has a PPP demo car and get a drive to see what you think. Then maybe get a drive in TSL or Scoobysport demo to compare the differences and go from there, the only problem you will have is its just the start!!!

If have 2K now - why wait?! Sometimes one can be too sensible.
Warranty issues however DO make sense - so go for PPP and get the performance/aural pleasure (nb spelling) for 2 whole years! That more than makes up for any depreciation. And you might not have that spare £2k in 2 yrs time.
IMHO

Exclamation

Andy,
If your STi7 is 12months old and you PPP, you'll have 2years without any worries about Warranty a car that's certainlly far better to drive. In day to day as well as hard driving Most peeps here, and I agree, get an extra 2mpg through the increased Torque and probably a £1k on the secondhand value

You could of course stick exhaust, chip and induction for £1400 but will **** your warranty. Possibly have to put back to normal on trade in.

IMHO

Talking

misty,

I probably am a bit of a Wuss, but I just like an easy life...!

Andy,

I am currently considering an upgrade to an STi7. I would almost certainly buy a car from a dealer, at a premium. But I would consider a private sale ONLY if the car was an STi7 + PPP + option to extend warranty to 5 years!

I would not buy an STi7 privately if it had any warranty-bashing mods like a full decat, etc. However, I would also be very cautious when considering 'standard' STi7's, due to a common trick of stripping the aftermarket mods before sale! It is pretty unlikely that someone would strip the mods and then add a PPP at £2,000.

I believe that my attitude to buying is fairly common, so you would be limiting your resale audience going with anything other than a PPP!

But then I'm completely biased because adding a PPP to my MY00 was the best £2k I've ever spent...

Mark.

Cheers everyone,

your thoughts are valuable as always.

One last thing (while I wait for my dealer to register a PPP demo car) - Is the difference between STI & STI PPP as much as I experienced with the WRX to STI??

I'm waiting for the answer to this one, cos if the difference is the same, I'm gonna blummin well get the PPP fitted to my soddin 03 STi.

Wuss,
you might get called a wuss but you wont get called "stupid". A wise outlook on the purchase of used scoobs grasshopper. Its sound advice to the uninitiated (such as me).

Andy,
Perceptsion and memory do play a big role so hard to do a back to back comparisions.
If you did 0-150 mph run, on a flat Airfield PPP would win but the difference's may not be great. However you will certainly notice it during everyday driving 40-80 mph during overtaking, pulling hard around corners and up hills etc The Sti's Diff's really love more power
