If so what did you do about it,and how did you get on?
Dont ask me to name the importer because i wont for legal reasons.
An extremely pissed off ZippyEFC.

Thats no good is it.
I pressume the wheels are in motion, for returning the car and getting your money back?
Someone will be on soon who knows the legal implications for this, so you will have to wait a while.
A bit more info may help them, help you.
What do you want to do about it? (return car, money back, agree to part money back).........

Well i've altered the car a bit wheels, exhaust etc so i would have to return it to how it was.Money back is probably my best option though as how do you sell an N reg car that was manufactured between Nov 92 and Sept 93,you cant.I am waiting to hear from the importer at the moment.

A quick phone call to trading standards is in order come monday, not to mention the DVLA as they shouldn't be letting older cars get newer registrations.
Have you compared the VIN number with the SIDC FAQ's?

Sounds like misrepresentation to me..
or possibly fraud..
however you need to establish without doubt that the vehicle is not as it seems..
it is not unknown for the major OEM,s to build and store cars for up to 18 months hence built in my94 but car is first registerd and sold in 96 so it becomes a my 96
the only way the customer knows somthing is wrong is when they go to order parts, and find out an uplift or change has taken place..
If you have a contract which states what you wanted / what the dealer / importer supplied and they differ it may be a case of breach of contract,,
you definatly need legal advice on this.... try the aa or the rac,, they usually have a legal bod available if your a member..
if you do go with "friends" for moral support,
it may be useful to take a video camera,,,
if my mem serves me correctly digital piccys are not admisable in court!!
good old negs and paper..
Yoza thats very noble of you to offer support..

Just had a meeting with the main men at the importers. First of all they told me that lots of cars are made 2-3 years before they are registered, due to them been in warehouses etc. I said thats all well and good, but when the car was sold as new,the buyer would have been made aware of that and made a decision, struck a deal accordingly. My argument is that i should have been made aware also, they say they didn't know,i pointed out that as importers they should know. I told them that i wanted my money back, but they said company policy stated that refunds etc had to be done within 8 weeks of purchase,i've had the car for 12 weeks. They then offered to sell the car for me without charging their usual £1500 fee. They said they would put the car for sale at a price of £6495 and i would have to pay for the warranty, advertising, service etc. I declined this offer as even if they got the screen price it would leave me out of pocket. Finally they offered me compensation as a good will gesture. The amount they offered would bring the price of the car roughly in line to its actual worth as a MY93 car not a MY96 car. The only problem i have with this is how difficult is it going to be in the future to sell the car. I have declined this offer also and told them i will be seeking advice on the matter.
Any thoughts on me selling the car in the future? If i thought i could sell it without any problems,i would accept the offer as i love the car.
A not as pissed off as yesterday ZippyEFC.

Just a thought zippy, but I assume you have mentioned to the importer that although you have not named them yet, if you are not satisfied you would post their details on scoobynet and sidc forums. With regard to selling the car, I'm sure as long as you make the position clear to a purchaser he/she would not be too upset to drive round in a car looking younger than it actually is. try to make a positive out of a negative.

You could sell the car at a later date, under the correct model year, at the going rate.
But the compensation the ImportersClub gives you must cover this.

The level of compo would not have to go up much to sort this out,but before i go back to them i want to see what the trading standards have to say 1st.

How was the car advertised though? As a MY96 or as an 'N' reg. Obviously there is a difference. Curious to know.
Glad it's sorted all the same.
£6,495 foa MY93. Crikey. Maybe I'll get them to sell mine.
