Please dont laugh. Its time for something a little smoother, more luxurious, more long distance, safer, more.....old manish.
Dont get me wrong, the two scoobies I have owned served me well. And I can still remember watching McRae take the Impreza out for its first rally, and saying to myself(at the age of 15)that I would one day have one of my own. Well now at the grand old age of 25 and married its time to move onto the next option.
For a while I have fancied a Jeep of some kind, but was unsure which one.But when you look around there is not a lot that stands out. All the diesels are too thirsty and slow and the petrols too expensive too run. So it seems the only option is stick with the petrol idea and gas convert one. What one do you do? Jeep , Mitsubishi,Toyota?? NO, it has to be the RR. Its got all the toys a man could need and a look of prestige.
I know that you are probably all shouting at the screen by now, but hold on. There is method in my madness. Once i sell the Scooby and get the RR sorted out I am looking to build or buy a track/ rally Impreza that I can tow round behind the RR. Therefore allowing the best of both worlds.
Also remember that at present I need to go for sunday runs and the shopping in a 310bhp STI 5 RA or the wifes MX5 (or a £200 fiesta)
What do ya think??
No nasty comments please, or jokes about hedgehogs, ****** and Range Rovers!

I presonally would not trust a rangy as far as i could push one.
They are not that reliable and hope you can afford the phone calls getting recovery arranged for it.
Trust me, I used to work at a dealer!
But at least after the thrid or fourth recovery call, you get to know the first names of the drivers, very freindly and re assuring.

Go for a Pajero .... I bought one about two months ago ........ You get everything, leather heated seat, electric folding mirrors , twin air con with climate, 7 seats , large sunroof .... The list goes on , they look the biz (parked next to a Disco or RR they look a thousand times better (IMHO)) and don't go too bad , I've got the 2.5 TD but you can get them as 2.8 TD.
Test drive one and see what you think.
Nate.

Don't do it.
Agree tha they great, great visibility on a motorway, great off road (but would you ever use it) but they're also great for your local dealer as they're always breaking down and cost the earth to fix.

Just 6 hours ago the scoob went back to the finance company as I refuse to pay this years insurance renewal. I now have in the garage a 4.0 litre Automatic Jeep Cherokee. More toys than you can shake a stick at, much more comfortable and it has slowed me down to less death inducing speeds.
Also means the dog can now come in the car and I cna go play off road as much as I want.
I will miss the runs I did in the scoob but not the worry about where to part it because of theaving ******* or old dears using it as a door stop for their Honda. Also means I can now play with the over steer a lot easier by using the Jeep in 2WD.

Well we've just brought a discovery to replace our second car (future plans sound a bit like yours ) - excellent vehicle, obviously completely different to the Scoob, but then we intend to seriously off-road it too
Used it on the rally GB this weekend, over 800 miles and I did all but about 20 miles of the driving - easy to drive, confortable (a little to comfy when you have to be getting out the Landy onto the moors at 5am ) and now I wouldn't be without one.
My brother off-roads, as do many of my friends and the Rangie seems a popular choice. They may go wrong, but bits are cheap and the workshop manuals are available to buy.
I would recommend asking on the Land Rover UK forums a friendly bunch and you'll get an honest opinion from people who've actually owned them

Discovery - Brillant! 4.0 V8 ES spec - all the trimings - Soooo much more clas than a Shogun or Pajero Ha!
How many miles do you do? If its relatively low don't rule out the petrol engines! ~ £500 a year extra for the petrol for 8000 miles I think. Much more refined drive than the diesels and the performance will surprise smaller cars away from the lights . I hadn't planned on getting an auto-box either but that is superb. Off-roading or greenlaning is fun too! You look for any chance to get your wheels muddy! There's room between the front seats for a portable DVD player as well, to keep the kids amused on long journeys - If you can keep a Scoob too thats brilliant. I love both cars they are so different and yet each one is such fun to drive

Good luck with your new aquisition whatever you choose!

Get the mitsubishi 4x4, cant remember the name (not the shogun) but its based on the EVO drivetrain and has the 276bhp 4G63
Not the best of both worlds, but maybe a good compromise ?

close friend went from evo 6 to range rover.
Has had 3. Crashed first one and wrote it off, rejected second one due to serious ongoing faults, and is in the process of rejecting the third one due to persistent brake servo failure causing the pedal to go the floor randomly. Brakes still work, but when you are expecting power brakes and don't get them, it is an accident waiting to happen.
Land Rover are not helping much despite having witnessed the occurence on three separate occasions.
Unless you are looking at the BMW built and designed brand new range rover, then walk away.
and if petrol consumption is a concern for you, then don't even consider the range rover, even if you are having it converted to lpg.
