F1 Eagles, hope your tyres are not as noisy as your emails, that would be loud

Not impressed with Goodyear F1 GSD3, (the new one), the side wall seems a bit soft, compared to Bridgestones.

PS I dont know what to get next time either!!!!!

I'm with STI Paul on this, Goodyear f1s are the worst handling tyre I ever bought, soft squidgy sidewall downright dangerous. Ran my UK turbo on pirelli assimetricos and was happy. It's hard to tell different tyres suite different peeps. A lot of people on here swear by Toyo ts-1 ,

Pirreli's read all the tyre tests in Autocar they've done one recently and last year... I had B-stines on the BM and whne I got the STi had the 18" with pirreli's and seemed better... One thing the B-stones offer lots of grip but tramline badly, i thought this was just the BM but having put my B-stine shod gold whells on for the winter they do exactly the same!

I'd read the tyre test issue if you could though! Toyos didn't do very well... Actualy they were ilminated I think for provding fixed tyres!

Rachael,

Difficult one this as tyres are a personal choice. You only have to look at the variety of responses you have had so far to prove that point.

I use Goodyear F1's on the basis of a tyre test that CAR magazine ran early this year (I think it was this year). It came out as the best all round tyre. My experience backs this up. My suggestion is you go to their website and see for yourself.

Toyo's are a popular tyre on this BBS; however from my personal experience, and I stress that point, I would not touch them with my best mate's barge pole; at least not on a MY02/03 STi.

If you want to know more email me offline.

Cheers

WB

I used to buy Yoko's, A509, A510, A539 all very good. I'm surprised that very few people on here seem to mention Yokohama.

The dogs danglys IMHO!

Buck, have you tried the A038 Advans, used to leave sticky bits of rubber along the side of my MR2, they were that soft ! , lots of grip

Not sure if they come in 225 though.

Gary, no I have not had the pleasure!

My last set were the A539, which were excellent in wet and dry. Not the longest lasting tyre, I'm sure, but they lasted around 10K. I was paying £50 a corner, 195/50/15's on my old RS Turbo. (Got a Focus now, so wont be buying any yoko's for a while, not till I get me a scoob!)

A038's are more top of the range, in terms of soft compound / grip factor. My money would be on the AVS Sport's.

Eagle F1's - did someone say they were good - clearly not been on a track with them

I'd say Toyos are a good alrounder and then Falken FK451 on a budget

Red face

Petrolhead & Rachael,

Apologies. I wrote my response last night whilst feeling knackered.

The Mag in question is EVO, not CAR. July 2002 edition ran a 17 page tyre test & the F1's came out top. The merit order was as follows:

1=F1, 2=ContiSportContact, 3= Toyo Proxes T1-S, 4=Pirelli P7000, 5 =Michelin Pilot Sport, 6=Dunlop SP Sport 9000, 7=Bridgestone Potenza, 8=Avon ZZ3.

EVO's website is WWW.EVO.co.uk, thier back issues number is 01789 490215.

I would recommend that you get this issue if you can; it's highly informative. They ran a "Pop Idol" contest featuring the STi7 and an Evo, amongst other top cars. Very interesting end result....

Hope this is helpful.

Cheers

Got F1's on my STI and think they are superb, they are 18's though but much better than standard Bridgestones.
Recent tyre test in Autocar, Pirelli P zero Rosso came out top with F1's second. Toyos were in the test but got bumped for cheating.....
