finally to stop people calling it different things found out the exact meaning of RA in WRX STI RA Limited.
It stands for "Rally Applicant" was posted here on a Spec 'C' review for the US...so no more of this rally applied or race altered rubbish...you just own a RALLY APPLICANT...:-)
Exact wording used:-
RA stands for "Rally Applicant." It's a car intended to go racing and is, therefore, stripped of luxuries such as a sound system of any kind, air conditioning, power windows, trunk trim, airbags, underbody coating, and other things—all in the name of weight reduction

What makes caranddriver.com more right than someone else? I also thought it was Race Altered but who knows - I've never worried about it enough to check it out but seem to vaugely recall the words Race Altered on the STi website at some point in the hazy past.....

Subarus Global Site refers to it as 'Rally Applicant'

This Google Search seems to back up the Race Altered club, but I note that a) not a single Subaru website has a hit and b) the SIDC FAQ says it is Race Altered. Perhaps that's where the confusion comes from.....
