Now i've got me a fruity car on it's way from Japan which i'll be getting me mitts on in the new year.
My current problem is the decent insurance policy i have lined up invariably needs a cat1 alarm etc & the place i'm going to colletc from only does a certain cat1 alarm which aint really wot i'm after & i rather fancy getting DrClifford to install me sum goodies locally.
As i see it this leaves me only 2 options:
1) let them install crappy CAT1 then drive back with me funky insurance & then get DrC to work magic so i'm basically paying to install 2 alarms etc
2) risk it for a day without alarm etc & hope nmothing goes awry that insurer may take dislike to c/o not having CAT1.
Now option 2 can bugger off as after waiting months for car to arrive i dont fancy risking anything dodgy or otherwise
So any other options that u peaps might be able to suggest?
I am also insured fully comp on my other/current carp car/mondeo but as i understand it u only have 3rd party cover driving other cars if they are insured on another policy anyway
Any cunning plans to help me save money without risking motor will be greatfully received.......

Is it a seriously modded STI 7 by any chance
Seriously' if it were me id hold out for DrC even if i were to sleep in the ****** for a couple of nights with a big bat.
I reckon at worst your insurance company will say that they wont insure for theft until they have tthe certificate in their mits.
Having to get 2 systems fitted, the first just to get it home is abit of a **** sittuation and expensive.

Yep as suspected i merely woodn't be covered against theft which is kinda scary still when i will be driving such a lush car lol. But all going well it will merely ber a few hundred miles unprotected with doors locked, big torch & can of WD40 at the ready
Cheers for overcoming my retard mode

another option
Phone up the company and once you've spent 10 minutes being told that they value your custom, please press 1 for another voice telling you the same thing.....etc...etc...etc....
Once you are speaking to a Human, ask to speak to an underwriter and explain the situation. If you get no joy ask for his / her boss and keep going up the tree till you get someone with a brain and some 'underwriting authority'. And explain that you have the car coming in on import and you are taking to to XYZ to have the security fitted locally (hopefully the day you get it?) Explain that you'll be with the car till it's delivered to XYZ etc......You may want to say that you will disable it when parked - remove battery ? etc....) and they should cover you if they are half decent. The will charge you something almost certainly, but should be less that a second useless alarm.....). They might well write to you asking to confim the details so they are only covering the car if being driven or parked but undrivable (ie no battery etc....) - 3rd party etc will be std.
When looking at the price you pay for insurance, the vast amount of the premium goes to cover 3rd party liability, a very small part goes to cover the actual loss that may occur if it's stolen.
eg. if you were paying £3650 PA to insure (which I assume you are not), that's 10 quid a day......of which a small % will be for the theft pertion of the cover.....

I know my lot (Greenlight) agreed to give me up to a week's cover after the car arriving in the country (EU import in my case) before the Cat 1 alarm and tracker had to be fitted. No harm in mentioning that Greenlight did that to whoever covers you.

Could'nt you tell the insurance that you have a catagory 1 alarm fitted.
Lets say you pick the car up on a monday morning and drive straight to dr clifford for the alarm.
Any paperwork would show the same day of purchase and alarm.
Just make sure you dont have a prang on route.
