SCOOBY ENGINES...MILEAGE
#1
I just got a WRX with no history and 80 k - with mods and its running sweet (touch wood alot)
But the guy who had it here was 100% pendantic and the local Scoob garage checked it out, but that was for peace of mind.
Like everyone is saying low mileage isnt insurance !
(Edited cause I was eating Pizza and post didnt make sense)

Hi all,
Im after some information/advice on how well the subaru engine copes with higher miles.
Im looking at another Scooby and have found one thats covered 69k miles on a p reg sti. Ideally id like to get a car with the lowest mielage possible but with my budget this may not be possible.
I presume a full service history would go a long way to prove that the engines been well looked after.
Any advice would be appreciated, buying tips etc etc?

Basically an sti 3 p reg 97 thats just been imported, cant say about service history as liek you mentioned its in japanese.
According to the FAQ a sti 3 facelift model has 300 bhp and short ratio box, now is this box the same as the RA spec.
Cheers Guys

Buying a low mileage car ,whatever the make, does not guarantee you will have trouble free motoring. Make a checklist of all the things you want to look at and also any questions you may wish to
ask the seller. If you rely on remembering everything the chances are you will miss something.Taking a friend along with you to view the car who has some mechanical knowledge and an eye for detail is invaluable also. Make sure all the electrical items like windows, central locking etc work and don't forget the alarm. As you mentioned the service history should be up to date and with no gaps and finally an HPI check. If in any doubt, for whatever reason, walk away as there are plenty of cars out there.
Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the speedy replies guys.........
Im surfing the net here trying to find out whether it would be better to buy a WRX or an Sti varient. I used to have a wrx ra a few years ago and this had the very short ratio box in it, and i Do not want to go down this route again as i found it a pain on motorway driving, but great for track use!!!
Do all STi's have this very short box?

No cashy only Type RAs and Type Rs have short ratio gearboxes. There's far more 4 door WRX and STIs about with standard rather than short ratio gearboxes. Go find yourself a bargain - it's a buyers market at the moment!
