My old man just bought a freshly imported 94 WRX (because he likes mine so much!!) and the speedo has been recalibrated to now show miles but the odometer has just been left with the total amount of K's, but it now counts up in miles as opposed to K's.

Is this normal practise or should it be clocked back to show the total amount in miles?????

Cheers
Jake

I would leave it as it was - when re-selling just show the nearest MOT cert to the import date and calculate the kms + mls

Just a thought - my car was recalibrated or whatever they do - try measuring a mile and compare it to a uk car, how accurate is it. Think mines way out - clocks up slower thankfully

If its counting up in miles now i would be reading the total amount in miles too.. so would assume the total amount be reset to show the total miles and not k's..

It's illegal to turn back the numbers - that's clocking, doesn't matter why you're doing it. You should get a statement from the seller to say at what point the speedo/odo was converted to read mph/miles rather than kph/kms so you can keep that on record when you sell the car. The difference between kms and miles recorded is, thereafter, deducted from the figure shown on the odo to find the correct mileage. So, if the car reads 80,000 kms, that equates to 49,712 miles so deduct 30,288 from the odo reading from now on to get the correct mileage.

Winding back the milage (clocking) is NOT illegal. It is only illegal to sell the car knowing the milage is wrong and not declaring the correct milage.
