Does size matter
#1
Hi everyone i am new to the site.Ihave just purchased P1 which runs on 205-45-R17 I want a set of F1's but they only come in 215-45-R17. Does this make much difference to the cars handling cause wider does not always mean better.
One more thing is that the gear change seems to crunch a bit under heavy acceleration (when changing up at about 5500 to 7000rpm) from 4th to 5th only. )feels like the gearbox is still spining when trying to change up).
Any ideas. Thanks Waggy

If you bought from a dealer then get the gb checked - it shouldnt crunch, could be the gb or clutch or the driver?!
Why do you specifically want that brand of tyre - other manufacturers will do the size you need, saying that I would have thought the 215's will fit anyway

It is important you run the right size tyres. Check your hand book as the P1 may be different to STis. My car was on 16" rims and I changed to 215x40ZR17 which is the correct up size for the STi 6 Wagon. Goodyear F1 GD 03s or whatever they are called are available in this size. Do not run 45 aspect ratio if it should be 40. The bugeyes run 45 aspect ratio.
Somebody like Tyres Nothampton will keep you right.
Gearbox? Where did the car come from?

Get 215/40/17 as they are near as damn it the correct cicumfrence (sp?).The 215/45/17 will knock the speedo too far out on a classic.
If you take a trip into the wheels, tyres and brakes section, you will find out that everbody in your position goes the 215/40 route

Been down this route bfore but more opinions welcome - will 225/17/45's on STi rims be OK on a WRX o3 with PPP, it's the standard wheel and tyre off an STi which kicks out about the same BHP as the WRX with PPP kit- or is this tyre going to impare the handling due to different set up or reduced contact pressure?

Thanks for the offer Macka but i would only want a set of tyres as my car has a nice set of OZ mags and more importantly i am now totaly skint cause my car is but a few days old and i have done nearly 800 smile induced miles.
